About My Edible Backyard

Why IanW Love's Edible Plants

I love growing exotic fruits - seeing the plants grow, flower and fruit. I've grown
carnivorous plants for decades, its a whole new world in edibles. I have
very little space, as I'm in a flat on the side of a house. All my
fruit trees need to be dwarf or kept small.

Hello Ian, wow very interesting! would you have any Carnivorous plant seeds at all that I could buy? Which city are you growing all these at ?
IanW says... [3166 days 4hrs ago]
Hi Farouk, I'm in Ashfield in Sydney. Yes, I do have carnivorous plant seeds for sale on behalf of the Australasian Carnivorous Plant society. I have a PDF seed list.

Hi Ian, Hope you are well & having a fruitful season, so sorry I just seen your reply! I was just reading your Achacha plant comment, very cool plant you got there, if you are lucky & still interested Cabramatta has some Achacha fruit for sale right now $10 for 2kgs - fruit store is inside little shopping center inside across from Woolworths Cabramatta. Sure I would like to see the pdf of the Carnivorous Plant if possible, do you have a link to it ?
Farouk says... [3033 days 16hrs ago]
Thanks for the link, It’s an easy one just go to Cabramatta station & across from the station is woolworths, across from woolworths in the same building walking area is the fruit store which can’t be missed, they have fruit all the way to the main walking area. Comparing to Harris farm the achacha here is much cheaper & also isn’t as pretty but tastes just fine they have spots on them etc. Also you will find plenty of fruit stores around here if you go for a short walk around the area, take a walk down John St also.

Thanks Farouk! I visited Cabramatta and bough 3kg of Achacha fruit. Delicious! Now need to find room for the next tree in my wish list that has just come in stock.

Excellent! Glad you found them. Which tree might that be ?

Fertiliser or Organics Used: blood and bone, pine bark

Question: How can I help it flourish? Its been losing leaves since I bought it. I repotted it in a azelea, compost perliet and sand mix, which stopped the loss for the rest of Winter, but now the leaves are browning at the edges. In a few months it will be dead if no new leaves grow. I've now covered it with a plastic box to raise the humidity above Sydney's humid normal.

You have to wait for the flowers. I grew several golden kiwi seedlings from supermarket seeds. Of these two turned out to be female and one male. They pollinate successfully.
