Medium, spreading woody shrub producing plum sized red fruits. The fruit is best when fully ripened, is sweet and jelly like with some astringency. It is often eaten with salt or as juice or chutney. The flesh can be sucked from the seed. It has notable nutritional benefits. The plant fixes nitrogen with the aid of symbiotic soil bacteria and is a good addition to food forest systems. Also useful in flower arrangements. A low growing plant to 1m with long narrow blade like leaves and woody aerial roots. In tropical climates it can be grown as a marginal plant in dams and ponds, used as a bedding plant in tropical landscaping. Outside of the tropics, well worth trying as indoor plant in winter with a warm, sunny aspect. Allow the plant to dry out over the winter months, but maintain humidity

Jiaogulan

Early days yet. This plant is a gross feeder. I'm using sheep manure and due to the lateness of the my order, (Autumn) seeing a lot of leaf die back with strong rhizome growth but slow replacement leaf growth. Expecting good leaf growth in spring.

Jiaogulan

Prefers living under part shade, no direct sunlight. Responds well to seasol , do not let it dry out. Expands in all directions.
