My Edible Fruit Trees: Blueberry Trees WA
Blueberry - Misty (Cutting) 9/10 Amanda's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2538 days 16hrs Comments: - This variety seems to be more tolerant of our sandy soils here in WA - and I have found it performs the best in our heat and with the slightly limey bore water. It is a Californian bred variety so perhaps that is why. Fruits very well. I apply sulphur (sand-grain size) in late winter, to help keep an acid pH in the soil. Sometimes I use iron sulphate during the year also. We have one Sharpe Blue to assist with cross pollination and it prefers to be in a more shady spot, I have found I have trouble getting them to push vigorous new canes - to replace the old growth. Fruiting Months November Planted: 2012 Height 1.5 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 3 First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Balanced Acid lovers, little and often. Sulphur in spring and iron sulphate when needed. Question: How can I force them to push new vigorous canes? Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report 10 of 18 people found this review useful |

Blueberry - Nellie Kelly (Cutting)Itdepends1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5062 days 7hrs Comments: - New plant purchased via mail order in 2009. Large quantity of cow manure added to sandy soil sodium bentonite (clay, stock feed) for moisture/prevent water repellency. Pine needle mulch flowers of sulphur to decrease soil pH (Blueberries like acid soils). Note blueberries will prefer some shelter from sun- particularly in warmer climates (e.g. Perth). Update 2012 blueberries continue to do well- particularly Misty Blue and Nelly Kelly Planted: 2009 Height 10 Centimetres Qty: 2 Sun/Shade: Low Sun Pruned By: 25% in Autumn and Winter Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Azalea and camellia mix When I Fertilise: Spring Pest Control: Nil Was this review helpful? Blueberry - Misty (Cutting) 8/10 Itdepends1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5062 days 7hrs Comments: - Large quantity of cow manure added to sandy soil sodium bentonite (clay, stock feed) for moisture/prevent water repellency. Pine needle mulch flowers of sulphur to decrease soil pH (Blueberries like acid soils). Note blueberries will prefer some shelter from sun- particularly in warmer climates (e.g. Perth). I have one in a half wine barrel which receives shade on the east side from an apricot and on the west side by an orange. The second one that was in a wine barrel was not sheltered on the east and didn't do as well. It's since been transferred to the side of the house (in what used to be----- or is still somewhat- the fernery) Update 2012 blueberries continue to do well- particularly Misty Blue and Nelly Kelly Planted: 2008 Height 50 Centimetres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 2 First Fruited: 5 Months from Purchase in Pot Sun/Shade: Low Sun Pruned By: 25% in Autumn and Winter Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Azalea and camelea mix When I Fertilise: Spring Pest Control: Nil Was this review helpful?
