Comments: - Removed this one as I didn't like the tree or the fruit much. Get's huge and looks ugly if pruned. Didn't handle storms well. Fruit inspid, I thought. Very dissapointing tree.

Comments: - Was planted by previous owners. A gnarly looking tree that fruits well. Lovely complex mulberry flavour and is my favourite of our types. Very messy fruit though - and the birds love them too.

Comments: - A big vigorous deciduous tree with a lovely arched branching habit. Fruits prolifically and holds it's crop well. Large fruit that are very sweet, I think they taste a bit liek honey. Too sweet for some folk but if they are picked when still a touch green then more tolerable. Can get further flushes of fruit over summer - especially after some tip pruning.

I have no idea what variety of black mulberry I have but they are absolutely massive and I have never seen any bigger.  Mine was grown from a cutting given by a friend.  I hack the tree back every year after fruiting and bend down all the fruiting wood in winter to keep it at picking level.  They are so yummy when cooked and juiced.  So low maintenance and prolific!

I will transfer this tree into a large winebarrel soon. Hopefully,it will be a prolific bearer like the white shahtoot. I've eaten it's berries and they taste like honeyed rasberries.

Purchased this in 2008 as I enjoy mulberries but don't have the room left in the yard for a full sized tree. Growing this in half a wine barrel will keep the tree dwarfed and I'll still get a "taste" of fruit off it.

Update 2012 the Black English has been planted in the ground- replacing my dwarf red shatoot as it tastes much better than the dwarf red (they are too sweet for me) and it's an excellent flavour. Doesn't fruit as heavily as my seedling mulberry but tastes better.

Comments: - Our tree is huge and graceful. Its beautiful to look at and beautiful to eat.We prune off the dead canes from the inside each year, and its about 3m2 inside now. My kids use it for a cubby house:)The fruit ripens in waves; raining berries for about 3 days, then next to none for the next 3-5 days. While the berries are falling, we put a sheet under the tree, and the first ones dont have time to spoil before the berry shower ends.Apart from fresh handfuls straight off the tree, we like to blend the berries with a little sugar and pour over vanilla ice-cream. A favourite summer treat!

Reasonably heavily pruned due to being in pot. Grows faster than the Black English and isn't as suitable for pot culture in my opinion

2010- I've revised my opinion of this- the vigorous growth means heaps of mulberries off the new growth. Pruned this in late summer when I repotted it into a larger pot (note to self- termites love half wine barrels left in damp gardens). Got an early autumn crop of mulberries from the new growth!!
