Pine Nut

An attractive large pine tree that bears cones of edible nuts. These are considered a delicacy in Mediterranean style cooking, due to their sweet, buttery flavour. Trees can be expected to start producing cones from about year 6. But can take longer. Each cone holds about 50 nuts and 100 kg of cones holds about 20 kg of nuts. Grows best in dry cooler areas with excellent drainage. Trees can set nuts on their own, but cones may be poorly filled. Plant two or more to improve nut set.

This is a beautiful tree with large glossy leaves and stunning pendulous flowers. The flowers produce large quantities of nectar which attract lots of wildlife. Cassowary love feeding on the large fruits when in season. Also called the mango pine, this deciduous or semi-deciduous tree is found in New Guinea and Australia chiefly in coastal areas. The glossy leaves tend to be whorled at the ends of the branches, The fragrant white flowers are in long pendulous spikes and appear just prior to the new growth flush. Will grow as far south as subtropical Northern NSW.

Native to the highlands of far North Queensland, this raspberry is a sweet red-orange berry that grows on an upright suckering, sprawling ground cover with cane-like stems. It is delicious eaten fresh. Their popularity means they are often on supermarket shelves. The taste is milder than the European raspberry. The plant is very resilient to warmer growing conditions and can produce up to 3 kg per plant. It does need some management so it won't take over the garden, grow it where the suckers can be mowed over, or alternatively grow it in a large pot.Weed Warning: Birds could transfer seed in Coastal Subtropical regions. Dragon Tree

Young dragon Trees have a single stem. At about 10 - 15 years of age the stem stops growing and produces a first flower spike with white, lily-like perfumed flowers, followed by coral berries. Soon a crown of terminal buds appears and the plant starts branching. Each branch grows for about 10 -15 years and re-branches, so a mature plant has an umbrella-like habit. Very slow growing requiring about ten years to reach 1.2 metres.

Pandanus amaryllifolius is the plant that supplies leaves used for flavouring food throughout Southeast Asia. Wish Daleys would offer that as I´m embarrassed to reorder from the same stockist after killing the last lot :)
