The fermented pod of this climbing orchid is harvested from the Vanilla Vine or orchid, an aromatic sweet scents used to flavour cakes, and perfumes. Must be hand pollinated. The only insect capable of pollinating the blossom is the Melipona, a bee (see video) , native only to Mexico so all plants must be hand pollinated within 12 hours of the flower opening. The pods take nine month to develop.

A very handsome evergreen, reaching a height of 8 - 15 metres and bearing the worlds largest fruit. Fruits can weigh up to 20kg. Strong odour but is deliciously sweet. It can be eaten fresh or dried. Very quick growing and usually starts fruiting in 4th year. Cincturing can help earlier fruiting.There is an old Sri Lankan proverb that says, with jak and coconut in your backyard you will never starve. This is because every part of the jackfruit tree is useful. Unripe jackfruit can be cooked with chicken, fish and eggs, and ripe ones can be eaten as-is or processed into drinks, jam, jelly or candy. The same applies to other parts of the tree such as the skin, leaves, flowers, wood and latex which have their own uses and benefits.

Very similar to the Glengarry, this local selection originates from just outside Lismore. A hardy tree, that comes into fruiting early and produces good crops of good quality, medium sized apricots. Approx. chill hours 500, slightly higher than Glengarry, fruiting in November.

Closely related to the Persimmon this attractive glossy foliaged tree produces a fruit often called the 'Chocolate Pudding Fruit'. Pepper - Black

Cultivated for the fruit which is dried and used as a spice and seasoning. The fruits are dark red when fully ripe. Immature fruits can be picked as green pepper, black pepper is the fruit dried with the skin on and white pepper is the dried seed only. Black pepper is the worlds most widely traded spice.
