Jumbo Nut, high yielding. Preferred variety for all markets. It requires cross pollination with the Halls Giant. The tree is moderately vigorous and has few suckers and is an abundant cropper. The shell is moderately firm and light brown with pronounced darker-colored stripes. Nuts are large and attractive, averaging 4.2 g, and have a kernel percentage of 48%. Early-Mid season pollen release.All hazelnuts are self-sterile, requiring pollination from a genetically compatible partner. Pollen release timing and genetic makeup both contribute to variety selection, and commercial orchards often select 3-4 "pollinator" varieties to plant amidst their main harvest cultivar. Hazelnuts are often planted in close spacings as they are wind pollinated.

An excellent ornamental shrub that produces a spectacular display of deep rose-pink or mauve flowers. Appearing throughout spring the flowers are followed by small round purple berries that have few seeds. The sweet berries are delicious eaten fresh or in Jams. They are similar in taste to blueberries and raspberries but they have thicker, richer juice. The bush is very frost hardy and will fruit as far south as Melbourne. It is often seen grown as a highly decorative hedge. Interestingly the shrub is also adapted to fire and will re-shoot vigorously if it is burnt. Hand pollinate for best results in the absence of bees. Weed Warning: Ceylon Hill Gooseberry is a highly attractive shrub very well suited to the subtropics. It isn't a weed in Australia, but has been recorded as a weed in parts of Florida, we recommend netting the shrub to reduce seed dispersal by birds.
