A spectacular tree that puts on a breath taking display of autumn colour. Flowers are inconspicuous. Foliage is bright green before changing to its autumn splendour. Drought hardy, well drained soil.

Chinese Red Bayberry

Fruit is typically a deep, brilliant red, but may vary from white to purple. Flesh colour is similar to outer colour, or somewhat lighter. Flesh is sweet and tart with berry flavours. Single seeded. Besides eating fresh, the fruits may be dried, canned, soaked in liquor. The bayberry is an evergreen dioecious tree with separate male and female plants. Our seedlings are not sexed and it is recommended to grow at least 3 to be assured of at least one female.

Japanese Raisin

A fast growing tree that produces small raisin like fruit stalks which can be eaten fresh, cooked or dried. The Raisin Tree is deciduous and can grow to a height of 21m but in the open is more commonly around 9m with a single trunk and a rounded head. They have handsome, large, glossy green, cordate leaves which can hang from the stem. The flowers are small but are clustered together in great masses and are cream in colour.

Fruit should be picked mature as it does not ripen further on storage. Originating from the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin in South America, the Bolivian name of the fruit is Achachairu and translated means honey kiss. Achacha is protected by Plant Breeders Right (PBR) and cannot be grown or propagated without licence agreement with Achacha Fruit Group

Sometimes known as Cainito is native to the West Indies where it is a very popular fruit. Fruit can be purple or green skinned. When cut in half there is an attractive star pattern. The flesh is sweet and tastes very smooth and aromatic. A very attractive tropical tree, leaves green above and gold underneath. Not suitable for temperate climates.

Silver Birch

A medium sized deciduous tree to 15-25 metres. The bark of this ornamental tree is white with black markings. Silver birch prefers a cool winter and warm summer and it is tolerant of poor soils. Widely planted in parks and gardens where it it grown for its beautiful white bark and gracefully drooping shoots. Silver birch wood can make excellent timber for carving kitchen utensils such as wooden spoons and spatulas: its very mild, sweet flavour does not contaminate food, and it has an attractive pale colour. Bark can be heated and the resin collected; the resin is an excellent water proof glue and firestarter.
