The leathery rough dark-purple skin turns to black when ripe. H Aug-Dec. Hass is an A type variety and for good fruit set a B type variety is needed for cross pollination. Suggested varieties to grow alongside a Hass are Shepard, Sharwill, Fuerte, Bacon (if you're in a cooler climate)and Linda. Happy fresh avocado smashing.

Pear shaped fruit, small to medium in size with slightly rough, thin green skin. The flesh is of a buttery texture with excellent flavour. Vigorous spreading tree that bears biennially. Harvest April - June

An attractive large pine tree that bears cones of edible nuts. These are considered a delicacy in Mediterranean style cooking, due to their sweet, buttery flavour. Trees can be expected to start producing cones from about year 6. But can take longer. Each cone holds about 50 nuts and 100 kg of cones holds about 20 kg of nuts. Grows best in dry cooler areas with excellent drainage. Trees can set nuts on their own, but cones may be poorly filled. Plant two or more to improve nut set.

Walnut - Black

You cannot plant it near most other trees or plants, because black walnut sends out a chemotropic singnal that literally kills its competition. Very few plants can grow around the roots of a black walnut. I had an old one in the States and I know.
