Can I grow cocoa tree in mackay will it fruit (forum)

I live in Eimeo mackay and as a child living in the Solomon's we used to grow cocoa trees and eat the fruit I would like to know if it is possible to grow these trees in mackay qld and if so will they fruit here.

They can fruit down to near coffs harbour if you give them enough tlc. Id imagine in Mackay you'd need to provide lots of shade and protection from the wind. They love water and parts of Mackay should be pretty well suited. Others not so much.

Thanks I've heard there is someone growing some here quite successfully so I'll try and get some seedlings and give them a go fingers crossed they live as I really miss this fruit.

Are you in the 'rare fruit club' ?
There are many local members in your area , 70 I think ... and I am sure a few of them will have chocolate trees .
It should grow well in the right microclimate ..
