Bron357 starts with ... Hi, we have a huge Feijoa tree, over 5 metres, here in the inner west of Sydney which creates a mountain load of fruit which goes to complete waste (we don't eat them). The tree is currently in flower. If anyone wants to have some fruit let me know and I can message you once the fruit has formed, another month or two I think. Cheers.

Jasoneboyd says... Hi Bron, I love Feijoas and I've been buying them from Feijoa Direct up until now, about $60 for 15kg. Unfortunately, they now have a complete sales deal with Harris Farm and don't sell private anymore. Come feijoa season in March/April, I'm happy to do a trade for some of your fruit! Bron357 says... Hi all, I'm sorry to report that we've been besieged by fruit bats. I heard this squealing the other night and thought it was fighting cats, but no, the fruit bats this year found the Feijoa tree. They have monstered the tree. We'll obviously have to try netting it next year. Apologies, for years and years no trouble with bats, but this year - wham. | About the Author Bron357 CROYDON,2132,NSW 31st March 2017 4:14pm #UserID: 11284 Posts: 3 View All Bron357's Edible Fruit Trees |

Fruitylicious1 says... Hi Catriona Most feijoa varieties will grow and fruit well in Sydney. If you can only afford one tree because of space constraint select the self fertile varieties like feijoa oval, unique, mammoth, and nazematze though they will all benefit from cross pollination if another variety is nearby. Go for it. They are one of the easiest trees to grow in the sub tropics up to the cooler areas of OZ. Fruitylicious1 says... Hi Tara and to all feijoa lovers For the long term solution, plant a feijoa in a big pot if you haven't got enough space or renting. It's fun and easy. Go for the grafted variety for a shorter waiting period with your first harvest. Select a self fertile cv if you can only afford one. ChantelleGrows says... Hi Bron I would LOVE some feijoas when they ripen this summer!!! I've just planted six cultivars but it will take a while to get decent amounts of fruit! Also check out the facebook group 'cropswap' - you may be able to get some cool produce in return for some of your feijoas :) | About the Author ChantelleGrows Lindfield 5th October 2018 12:34am #UserID: 18158 Posts: 4 View All ChantelleGrows's Edible Fruit Trees |

Fruitylicious1 says... Hi everyone Just an update on my unique, Apollo, and nazematze feijoas that I bought from Daley's last year. They are almost 2 meters in height now and are flowering profusely from head to toe. Could not be more than happier with the outstanding result. As always happy gardening š

Edward3 says... Hi. Just want to share my experience with those wanting to grow Feijoas. I am growing 4 Feijoa varieties in Katoomba (which avoids fruit flies) - Duffy, Nazematse, Unique and White Goose. Duffy and Unique turned out to be considerably more productive so far, with very large fruit. Very happy with the result. Cheers. | About the Author Edward3 CARLINGFORD,2118,NSW 24th May 2019 9:56pm #UserID: 1655 Posts: 172 View All Edward3's Edible Fruit Trees |

GlenMac says... We had a very enjoyable feijoa season this year because we used fruit fly nets on our two largest trees - mammoth and an unnamed seedling. I'm keeping the trees pruned to no more than 7ft height to allow getting the cover on after a good crop has set. It works!

Edward3 says... Hi David Sorry to be late in replying - haven't checked this thread for a while. With regard to Duffy, I have not weighed the fruit so can't tell you. But one thing I noticed is that the fruit in the second year of bearing was much larger and well filled out compared to the first year. Also, the fruit sizes vary - some are quite large while others have not filled out. At least the crop is considerably more than the Nazematze which is a little disappointing. Perhaps the Nazematze needs a bit more time. The Unique on the other hand started bearing quite quickly and the fruit is a good size from the start. | About the Author Edward3 CARLINGFORD,2118,NSW 30th July 2019 8:24pm #UserID: 1655 Posts: 172 View All Edward3's Edible Fruit Trees |

David01 says... Hi Edward3, I have 4 different cvs. Apollo first time fruits weight about 100-120gr but their fragrance scent does not smell strongly like my unknown neighbour Feijoas. The others need to wait until next year to see how it smell and taste. If Unique is good I will add to my collection when it is available. IanW says... My Unique was covered in flowers for the first time this spring. Unfortunately only two of the setting fruit remain, I'm guessing the heat waves cased them to drop? It got to 45 C here at its worst. My 12 seedlings are about a metre and a half, except for the ones I've dwarfed by keeping them in small pots for longer. It will be interesting when they get mature enough to flower, if the dwarfed ones flower at the same time as their big brothers.

Fruitylicious1 says... Hi IanW I have 5 different feijoas here in Melbourne including 'unique' which all endured a 46C last December when they were blossoming. The fruit set of the unique was not affected. I just kept them well hydrated and well fed. BTW they are also container grown and exposed to full sun. I attached a picture here of my feijoa unique with fruitlets. Happy gardening š
