Is it legal to graft secondo?

    3 responses

I bought a secondo avocado tree weeks ago, the tree was good except a branch was broken, I decided to graft that branch onto a reed rootstock, I could see some healing tissues and hope it can survive rainy days recently.
I noticed there is a mark above secondo name, is it a patent of Daleys' ? And there are some secondo trees from other suppliers, it's confusing.

No, especially when you intend to sell them for profit on Gumtree.

Not sure what the mark on the Secondo label was.
Its illegal to commercially propagate patented varieties without permission, but there is an exemption for research purposes etc.
If you are repairing/replacing one you bought and not distributing them, I don't think its a big issue.

I planted the secondo/hass/reed in the ground for myself and other 7 types in pots. From reviews, secondo sounds great, but are you sure of that? To be honest, it's a type selected by Daleys, I doubt it's worth making profit, as I have other well-known types.

And It's funny, I grafted several pinkerton two months ago, all the grafted ones by myself are about to flower or flowering, while the one bought from Daleys doesnot have the intention to flower this year.
