Brendan, I have not seen them either but know some people call the temple tangor the king mandarin and they come from the carribean.I think C.nobilis could be an old synonym. Some taxonomists say all citrus are one species with our edible ones all arising from crosses of the original four types (subspecies?).Anyway could it be the same as the temple tangor?

King(of Siam)used to be grown in Australia years ago, also several more modern mandarins are King hybrids. Kara mandarin still looks a lot like it's parent, King and it may be easier to find than King.
King is not the same as Temple, although they are both tangors(mandarinXorange.
King is a strong flavored mandarin, maybe too intense for the average person?

Hi, the gold nugget mandarin available at Coles etc recently is a King mandarin hybrid,
King, being
King of Siam, one of the original thai mandarins.

The Gold Nugget tangerine, botanically classified as Citrus
reticulata is well known as a late season variety, and is named for
its appearance. The Gold Nugget is a mandarin hybrid, a cross between
two non-commercial breeding varieties, the wilking and kincy
mandarins.

That's the wilking mandarin
ie willow leaf X king
and kincy mandarin ie king X dancy,
3 original mandarin types crossed together.
Quite a few modern mandarins have King of Siam Mandarin ancestry.
Also Lux Interior of the Cramps said
The King of Siam sent a telegram sayin' Wop bop a loop a lop a lop boom bam!
but thats another story.
