Unfortunately both plants arent related. The white sapote is casimiroa edulis while black sapotes are diospyros digyna (related to persimmons). Thats very impressive growing a black sapote in Victoria Pieter, any tips or pictures?
@ Jim: wouldnt mind tasting a neapolitan sapote :P

Thanks for the info Nick, at this stage I am simply researching the possibility of growing it here in Vic. I believe it is possible, I have several types of Guava, Jambu (rose apple) Avocado and Pomegranate just taking off, we have had some early heavy frosts and they seem to be surviving them so far.... will keep posting progress. My aim is to grow as many tropical and sub tropical fruits as I can.

You need a fair bit of heat to grow a black sapote but it might be doable if you have mangolike heat out there in the central desert
