Hi Mulga

Planting trees near a septic tank is a little bit tricky. You want the plants to be shallow rooted to avoid causing damage to the underground plumbing system. Some trees/shrubs suitable to plant near a septic tanks are:

1. Japanese maple
2. Cherry tree (ornamental)
3. Dogwood tree
4. Holly shrub
5. Boxwood shrub
6. Azalea
7. Eastern redbud tree

Septic outlet? Does it have a hose and sprinkler system hooked up to it?
Most septics these days have a lot of chlorine in the outlet water to kill all the bugs and germs.
I use my septic water on anything non edible after letting it rest in a 1000ltr pod for a day or two, to get rid of the chlorine. Worms everywhere, trees thriving!
I water about 20 trees in the front of my property with the water from my septic system.
Bananas love moist environments.

There are various factors, Many septic systems will fail if roots invade the system or sometimes even in the soakage area. There are some trees that dont mind some wetness on part of their root area. These could be guava, soursop, mango, lychee,.grafted citrus, coconut, canistel, jaboticaba. It may not succeed if there is no draining structure in the soil which makes it anaerobic. I have seen a raspberry (Rubus phoenicolasius) with an astounding crop growing in a small thicket with dog crap and a leaky tap. If there are any toxins in a seepage, they would quite possibly find its way into the fruit.

Thank you everyone for you help. I will certainly check out plants recommended by Fruitylicious and Denise1. Living on a bush block with septic outlet above ground roots are not a problem as outlet 50 metres from tank plus only tank water used in flush
