Tastiest Avocado? (forum)

Hi, reigniting an old forum; in all the research I've done Hass is the most popular in the USA and Reed over Hass in Australia on grounds of taste. Shepard is the only 3rd avocado ever mentioned (old post and my girlfriend). What is the best to you?

Reed is probably the best, most people that have eaten lots of avocados say that. Back to back I often prefer Bacon to Hass but the theory is Bacon only tastes good in cold climates. Fuerte also is one of the best. In the end there's probably 100 varieties in the "best class" with just slight variations on flavour

I really enjoyed the 'hazzard' from Tropical Fruit World. i'm not entirely sure if they are really hazzard though, they were slightly larger than Reed with a more pear shape and were deliciously nutty - I ate most of them like a rockmelon, scooping them out with a spoon and eating them straight. If that sounds like a hazzard, then I like hazzard the best... Reed is my favourite of the more readily available varieties.

I was told a long time ago that Edranol was the best tasting. Had a good one growing, about 2 years old, but the latest wet season killed it, I'd say Phytophthora. Even Yates Anti-Rot could not save it, bugger! :-(

Does the Edranol have the more meaty/dry flesh like the Hass? (I am not as keen on the "watery" fleshed types..)

(ps - Hass my fave...makes the best guacamole, for me...)

My mate was renting a house where an Edranol avo was growing, boy they tasted good. The flesh is very tasty, a bit yellowish, and slightly dry. I'd say on a par with Hass, or slightly better. He's not there any more, so very hard to take some scions :-(

Funny part about all this, he doesn't like avocados!

I was camping up in Byron bay and got some Avocados from a little organic fruit shop and went back to my tent and made some toast, the Avocado was so exceptional I went back the the shop to ask what variety it was and they told me Edranol, I think I ate them pretty much all week :). I remember it being pretty tasty.

Brendan you can get night vision goggles AND ninja socks pretty easy on ebay

One must factor in the "camping effect" Food that tastes nothing more than ordinary takes on the aspect of ambrosia. I have eaten boiled rice with added cheese and thought it superb. Back home it was plain disgusting.
