Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a plum tree from the tablelands (on top of the hill from Cairns) and the local nursery guys told me they were grafted onto tropical plum stock and would grow and fruit in Cairns? I planted it to have a go but I'm wondering if anyone else in tropical climates have grown similar?

They wont grow in Cairns properly and on the tablelands a few plums can bear ok at higher altitudes ie 700m or higher. Tropic snow and florda prince peaches really only need 50 to 100 chill hours but are listed as higher and sometimes florda prince has half arsed fruiting in cairns.

I have eugenia candolleana's and they bloom very well, not much fruit though.
I also had grafted pluots from Oz which grew well but i culled them since i didn't have high hope for those.
I wonder what the latin name is for tropical plum since i've seen those tree's for sale many times but never with the latin name.
I grew a big variety of governor plum but they were not nice so i culled the tree.
