PAWPAW - YELLOW YD1B HYBRID Carica papaya (Seedling) 10/10Danny N1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3020 days 12hrs Comments: - Love Papaya Fruit, i am growing other varieties in Adelaide ( Southern Red and recent purchase of a Thai dwarf Torpedo - all purchased from Daley's), but thought i'd give the PAWPAW - YELLOW YD1B HYBRID a try as well - going to have Papaya coming out of my ears haha. It is showing strong growth in only 10 eeks! purchased 2 from Daley's hopefully one is male and the other female, would be miffed if they were both the same sex!. Papaya is in a 430mm pot with rich organics and mulch also the pot has a 30mm layer of volcanic rock which ensures excellent drainage at all times. I have also drilled over a dozen extra holes into the sides and bottom of the pot - potting mix is my own blend that retains moisture so the need to water is just a light sprinkle wit a watering can. Again the Papaya is living in my semi-enclosed pergola that has clear perspec sheeting allowing filtered light and sheilding from hot winds and cold nights. I have done all i can the rest is up to nature now haha. Planted: 2015 Height 2 Feet Growing: In a Pot Qty: 2 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pollination: Cross Pollination Cross Pollinator Variety: Same Fertiliser or Organics Used: Every Fortnight with Seasol Pest Control: None- no pest thus far Organic Status:Organic Was this review helpful? Apricot - Moorpark (Grafted) 9/10Lee2's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4924 days 11hrs Comments: - Love the taste of fresh apricots! Love the heart shaped leaves of the tree. Love that it is not fussy. Love that it is growing so well and bearing so much fruit this year. Fruiting Months January Planted: 2008 Height 3 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 1 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 6 Months from Purchase in Pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: Dynamic lifter, Complete Fruit tree fertiliser When I Fertilise: Spring Pest Control: None. Almost daily inspection to prevent problems Organic Status:Organic Question: I haven't pruned it yet and have been surprised by the amazing spring growth. But now the branches are bending down under the weight of scores of fruit. Being greedy, I thought I'd let it drop the excess fruit at its own discretion, but only a few have fallen. I will have to support the branches somehow for the next couple of months. Then I want to do a summer prune as I've heard winter pruning encourages fungal diseases. (Which is why I didn't prune it earlier) Last year it had about thirty fruit, six months after planting, but this year it's loaded with them! My question is: Should I thin out the fruit which is dotted along the whole length of the branches and causing them to hang horizontally? Then, when I summer-prune, how hard should I be? Avocado - Hass (A) (Grafted) 9/10Westy1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3056 days 10hrs Comments: - We purchased this 5ft tree from a local nursery for a good price. We built a large mound to improve drainage (we have clay soils) using a combination of quality soil from under an acacia baileyana, composted chicken poo/straw and a bit of cow manure. We staked it on 3 sides to help protect it from the wind. It is partly shaded from a eucalypt branch overhead. Survived winter frosts without any damage in Adelaide hills. We are on only rainwater so water it by hand once a week at the moment, probably more during its first summer and then it'll mostly be on its own. No flowers yet but shouldn't be long Planted: 2015 Height 1.6 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Spring Fertiliser or Organics Used: Manure, gypsum and organics When I Fertilise: Spring Organic Status:Organic Was this review helpful? Black Sapote - Maher (Cutting) 10/10Andrew26's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2476 days 6hrs Comments: - This is the start of my tropical plant growing. The picture shows my 1st, and cheapest greenhouse - an old fridge with the sides jigsawed out, and replaced with piecess of perspex and glass that I had lying around. At the moment it is a temporary home for black sapotes, coffees, blueberries, dragon fruit, and a pepino - with more on the way. When it gets a little too hot - the thermometer inside shows >=35oC, I crackopen the top door. It is kept warm - around 24oC O/N, even on below zero, frosty nights here in Clare, with a 70W incandescent glope, old quit and a tarp if it is raining. Next GH will be a shuttle with a clear polycarb top, before progressing to a poly tunnel, and finally, a twin walled polycarbonate GH with summer cooling and winter heating.
