Peanut Butter Tree (Seedling) 8/10

Amanda's Edible Fruits
Update: 1820 days 20hrs

Comments: - Fun to grow and the fruit does taste like peanut butter. I suspect this species is chill sensitive as it becomes chlorotic in winter once the night temps are less than about 8C - followed by bright sunny days. It recovers perfectly fine in spring so I don't worry too much about it. I use acidifying agents for them though as they don't like the lime in our bore water.

Planted: 2015

Height 2 metres

Growing: In the Ground

First Fruited: 2 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Medium Sun

Water Given in: Spring

Pollination: Self Pollination

Fertiliser or Organics Used: Balanced Acid lovers alternating with slow release organic chook manure pellets. Little and often.

Peanut Butter Tree 9/10

Brett7's Edible Fruits
Update: 1850 days 1hrs

Comments: - I have over a dozen of these growing (in two different places in Perth). Bought six from Daleys in 2017 which are all between 120 and 200 cm tall in 100 L planter bags. All are currently flowering but only a few fruits have set. The plants which are growing the best receive approxmately six/seven hours of full sun and have sunken teracotta pots which provide constant moisture. Plants that were planted in medium shade are taller but leggy. I also have an older seven plus year old plant (originally from Daleys) which flowers but does not produce large amounts of fruit. There is a possiblity it does not get enough water... Currently experimenting with fertilisers, water and bags (to increase humidity) to see if it encourages more flowers to open.

The plants do not seem to like the cold that much with the leaves looking like they are suffering from chlorosis if not protected.

Fruit does taste like peanut paste but does not have the best flavour or texture if left on the plant too long.

Fruiting Months April and May

Have three planted of differing varieties and have moved two to a better site (less wind). They seem to be happier now and growing well. I will move the Cosford next winter to the same area. I did originally plant them as a hedge but the wind burned them in summer and they just sat there suffering. No nuts as yet.

Water Given in: Winter

Pollination: Cross Pollination

None

Question:

How long before I can harvest nuts?

Bunya Nut 10/10

PhilippafromDerbyWA1's Edible Fruits
Update: 4627 days 1hrs

Comments: -

I planted a bunya nut of this size about 20 years ago in NSW on a creekflat which is now my sisters property. It stands 25m high and is magnificent. So I had to plant one here on our property for sentimental reasons. It  also has an edible nut which is delicious.

This tree is another plant from Daleys from last year. It is planted near my fenceline in full sun. We are half way through our long hot dry so it is on a dripper and is watered dailey. We are fortunate to have bore water as without it I would not have half the garden that I do. It is doing well and already a haven for spiders and such that build their webs close to the trunk as the spikey leaves keep the predators at bay.
