Can anyone please suggest a place to buy seed (or any propagation material) for the aerial potato (Dioscorea bulbifera) that is available to Western Australians?

Hi amanda,
It's actually a type of yam, grows on a large vine. Climbs up trees, along fences etc.
Probably best peeled, cooked then mashed. Tastes like potato/pumpkin/yam all together. Sometimes can be slightly bitter. My mate peels them, then puts slices on his bbq. He loves em. Some bake them whole too.
One a year is enough for me. It can be an acquired taste :-)

Hi All,
Oh they're fun to peel alright, the flesh can be slippery as a butcher's apron!
The flowers hang down from the vine, very nice, they fruit like mad. (up here). I'd say they would grow anywhere :-). Don't know about sending any to WA.
Seems like I've always had them, don't actually know where they came from. Oh yeah, some are so bitter they're inedible.
I might have some small ones left, contact me at: bahiggoatmackaydotnetdotau

My name is Byron and i am the nursery manager at the Permaculture Research Institute in The Channon, Nth NSW.
Wanting to say hello and put the word out looking for anyone with EDIBLE AERIAL YAMS or any EDIBLE YAM species at all. I am endevouring to expand our Perennial Staple food collection and would love any help in this department.
We have various specimens of all sorts of things and would be happy to do trade offs.
