bringing fruit tree's out of Oz (forum)

Bangkok starts with ...
Is it illegal to bring fruittree's out of Oz?

I mean a tree in a suitcase travelling by air.

If it's not illegal then why the Aussie nursery's won't send overseas?

I 'm just trying to understand how it all works.

There is some hassles in packaging and obtaining a phytosanitary certificate. A nursery may have dozens of requests in a year, and simply cannot get around to it when they are busy with local sales. Getting the certificates also involves an inspection of the nursery which adds to the effort involved. A nursery would probably need a big cash offer to make it worthwhile. I dont know what Daleys position is.

No BK it is all about the rules in the receiving country and Thailand is pretty clear what rules apply there.Check the quarantine periods,costs and what has free passage on their customs site.
Most nurseries dont export due to the complications and challenges of getting plants delivered alive and complying with other country's rules.
You will need to declare that noina or manou and bare-rooted you might have a chance so talk to their customs people on the phone.

It is not illegal to send plants from Australia. The only illegality would be if it is a prohibited item like an endangered species and would be subject to the rules of the importing country. Thailand is very relaxed; I know lots of people in Thailand who receive plants from all over the world to sell in markets there. If sending to the US, then you would need the certificates for the US gov. If you want to take to thailand you wont have issues

Allright cheers for the help.

Well i have some friends in OZ who can bring tree's for me. Just wanted to be sure they do nothing illegal against Oz.

Also others can receive in Thailand, they have thai permission for that.

So Aussie nursery's should just send abroad and ask the price they want. Just show the price on the website and sure some folks would still order. If the plant doesn't pass their customs then it's all their own risk.

But even better would be to bring scions out of Oz.

I also have a friend looking for many fingerlimes and he doesn't know where to order them. Sending 3 small fingerlimetree's to Europe costs 200 euro, also that can be done cheaper i guess but now i know that it's legal the game has changed.

In the past when i asked Aussie nursery's to send me abroad they refused because of their policy. My friends don't need phytopapers or anything, just the plant. Not all country's have same strict Aussie rules, thank god for that.

Cindy did you know that in Bangkok the most expensive durians of the world are sold. 20.000 baht a piece for a durian grown in Nonthaburi (where i live).

Thai will pay any price if they really want to have it.
There is also Kobe beef for sale for 15.000 a kg, have a look in the big malls. Bangkok is getting expensive these days.
A big plumeriatree also costs 20.000, huge desert rose 100.000 baht,there sure is demand for rare tree's but not in big quantity's i guess.

Now grafted fingerlimes cost 500 baht, very small ones. Bigger ones 2000 and all are sold out, have to order.

But i can reveice tree's in many country's, also in the EU. I only grow for hobby though.

The problem is to find nursery's with many variet's who will also ship...In Asia it's hard to order online because there are no online nursery's at all.

Growing seeds is allright but grafted plants are much faster to produce. That's what i want to grow (and pay for).

I think finger limes will be a good crop for thailand. The Thais will figure out much more inventive and delicious recipes to include them in too IMO.

Yes it was obvious they were gonna ban you, they did it american style with some slandering posts afterwards while you were banned.

I won't post there anymore though, if i want to see the Springer show i can find it on youtube.

Fingerlimes are available in Thailand but you have to order or just find them somewhere. Sure they will find their way into the kitchen but even more sure they will follow the money.

But good avocado's can also be grown in Thailand, we only can't get scionwood. I have 5 variety's now but not the good west indian ones. They should be the best for my climate.













I like this forum more, only normal people here but it needs more members.
