Eugenia condolleana

Anybody have any experience with sprouting these?
Mine seem to have rotted at the tip after breaking the soil, even after I got them out of the humidity box I'd set up. Bummer as I only had a few.
Rio grande and cambuca have come up okay in identical conditions with sterile seed mix etc.
Any ideas?

Candolleana shouldn't be too hard, just keep in shade and keep a bag over top of pot to keep humidity there. Sometimes I have found town water will not help either as the chemicals tend to leave a residue as it dries and these stick to growing tip and burn it aswell.keep a dish of water under it in the hot weather too.

They are easy to sprout unless seeds are old.Older seeds can take many months to germinate.

I've never met any Eugenia that wasn't exceptionally easy to germinate...almost impossible to get wrong.

Nope, haven't tried E. Moseni.

Not a huge fan of the genus. They're ok, but I wouldn't preference them over Garcinias for example. I'm fairly unforgiving with fruits though.

Yeah I got your message Don, admittedly I'd forgotten all about them. I Don't really trade anymore and I've been having major headaches with my little composite planters side project (4 hours per planter is way too long, I need to cut down my work input to make the exercise worthwhile). I sent the kakadu plums yesterday.

Thanks for responses guys.
I've found that a few of the sprouts I thought had rotted off have regrown from lower down the stem, so I have a few coming along okay now.
My problem in retrospect was babying them too much - providing a heat source and high humidity - as they've done much better being left outdoors in a shady spot as Don suggested. Because I 'invested' in these seeds from o/s I changed my usual germination style and promptly killed a bunch of them.
Oh well, live and learn :)
Happy holidays all!

Haha, I'm hearin ya! I lost heaps till I learnt to just leave them alone. Just some osmocote azalea mix and megatube and water every second day in this weather and they pop up pretty well.

If you have chlorinated water causing dieback, you can leave the tapwater in a bucket for a day for the chlorine to dissipate before watering. Just the same you would do for preparing water for the fishtank. I have installed a chlorine filter for watering the garden
