denise1 says... Some kind of pandanus. If you look at the last four letters of its name you will see why not to eat it. The soft tissue on the tips of a ripe fruit can cause in some people a rapid and violent case of the runs. If trying it out make sure you are near to a dunny. I believe the seeds are ok to eat but would be careful with that too. | About the Author denise1 auckland NZ 25th December 2015 1:16pm #UserID: 6832 Posts: 688 View All denise1's Edible Fruit Trees |

tropicbreeze1 says... It's a species of Pandanus. I don't know the actual species of the one in the photo. Those segments making up the fruit are a very hard shelled type of nut. The kernels inside are usually edible, the local species were eaten by Aboriginal people. But getting the kernals out is a very difficult task. It's a lot of hard work and, while I like them, I generally don't feel like putting in the effort to extract them. Maybe there are easier ways, but I don't know of any. | About the Author tropicbreeze1 NOONAMAH,0837,NT 26th December 2015 9:07am #UserID: 12958 Posts: 2 View All tropicbreeze1's Edible Fruit Trees |
