Sodapop starts with ...
Fruit is about 2 inch diameter. Flesh is clear like a lychee (smells similar too) with 2 or 3 almond-sized seeds. Tree is about 15-20 ft tall. SoCal. Thanks!

Looks like a loquat to me, Eriobotrya japonica from Southern China/Japan. Nice eaten fresh, there are some great varieties around. Trees are very hardy, they are related to apples/pears (Pome family).

I agree, Phil. It's nice to see a bunch of loquat free from fruit fly and bird attacks.

Good morning, Mike. I have to make room for a contingent from the north. :) Funny how you can make room where there is no room.

David there is a big chill here as well and must have been 17 last night. The parcel will go tomorrow morn.Do you want yellow gramichamas and jaboticaba seedlings? The last bag is a 3kg one so should I toss in some greens and other odds and ends for ballast.I might throw in intact but aged rambais for you to extract the seeds from yourself.

Crazy to hear you say Briz winter ,when i think of all the cold climates ive lived in and now call Brizzie home, must admit that the winters here are becoming a bit cool for me.A bit of a story , was born in the UK, little village litterally between Manchester and Liverpool, long since lost the accent, then moved to NZ with parents and big sis.they still live there ,Dad passed away long time ago ,two weeks infact before first born son.Good to hear your dad still around. sounds like you have good family support. Now daughter ,second child,is married with child of her own, granddaughter for us, which she stays with us 2 times a week, while Daughter and son in law work ( both nurses), wish i had the same energy i had 30 yrs ago with our 2.

I am a child of the early 60's with no kids and not as social as I should be.

Where you live becomes normal and your definitions of cold and hot change also when you move. You also get used to the size and character of the place.Briz might have a bloodbank but the UK has a liverpool.I bet you do have an accent but just can't hear it yourself.

Gee u guys exaggerate about the weather?! U need to tell us if it was a one-dog or two-dog night ok..? :D

Once u have lived north of the 26th parallel u are ruined I reckon...??

After 15yrs far-north of the 26th parallel - I want a colder climate myself...I like being able to throw on a jumper and get outside! Ride horses, garden, snuggle up around the fire etc. So much more energetic!

It's not so easy in the heat and humidity, I have learned.

There are pro's n con's for sure...but I must admit - there are some really nice places in the far South West of WA that don't even get frost..?

Sydney was 7 - 11 degrees C last night. Fortunately I have not noticed any damage this morning. Of course the sweet leaf is droopy but it usually comes good as the day warms. Surprisingly the paw paws are defiant of the cold.

It should be 20 to 30 here in the next few days so there is relief on the way from the brisk weather but soon it will dip below 20 all the time so people will keep the woollies close at hand.

While we're at it - there's a tree in my new workplace garden with fruit that looks a bit like a nashi - that's what I thought it was but the leaves aren't right. The first crop of fruit I've seen never had a chance to ripen unfortunately as the gardener took them off (will make sure it won't happen again if they're edible!).
Fruit got to about 2 inches diameter. Has a five leaf compound arrangement, ovate shape leaves, smooth edges to them. The fruit grow in bunches of about 6. Tree is about 5 metres tall. Anyone have any ideas please??

The tree you have there is also a golden globe or lemon gold (one of the more subtropical types anyway) you can tell by the leaves and look of the brances
