snottiegobble starts with ... I happen to be a distributor of mangosteen juice, but I wish this wonderful fruit from S.E Asia would grow south of Darwin & the Daintree, but to my knowledge it wont. I know there are plantations everywhere up there, because people rang me after the hurricane 2 or 3 years back, trying desperately to sell tonnes of mangosteens blown from the trees. This was when bananas went from $2.50 a kilo to $15. I just wonder if anyone has had any success further south?

snottiegobble says... Want a true taste sensation? Mangosteen fruit for sale at Bunbury farmers market & they are fresh not like the safeway rubbish in Vic. 2 fruit for $3 but dont try to eat the rind ( pericarp) thats where most of the anti-inflammatories are but very astringent. You can dry & powder it though as its excellent for sores ulcers skin complaints etc. | About the Author snottiegobble Bunbury/Busso (smack in the middle) 29th August 2010 1:01pm #UserID: 3468 Posts: 1458 View All snottiegobble's Edible Fruit Trees |

Rev says... Ive got mangosteen seedlings from 700m alt in Bali They have continued to grow through a townsville winter also Noni is a lot tougher than mangosteen They really do thrive in Townsville, there are many trees that overhand footpaths and nobody seems to pick it up and i have seen noni growing in a sheltered spot in brisbane i *Think* there is a true mangosteen in Anderson gardens too, cant be absolutely sure. theres the yellow mangosteen i know, but a smaller tree nearby looks lke the real thing | About the Author Rev North qld 29th August 2010 8:31pm #UserID: 1806 Posts: 359 View All Rev 's Edible Fruit Trees |

snottiegobble says... Rev, you lucky so & so. You have a ready made medicine chest so absolutely no reason to ever be sick. Noni is so good for the immune system, but unlike mangosteen it doesnt taste nice.it is hardier than mangosteen but I still couldnt save one tree in my Victorian polyhouse during winter. | About the Author snottiegobble Bunbury/Busso (smack in the middle) 30th August 2010 11:37pm #UserID: 3468 Posts: 1458 View All snottiegobble's Edible Fruit Trees |

Rev says... So how do i use the noni? and if all the mangosteen is used for is the rind, no problem more rind than fruit in NQ fruit! ive been reading up on Mangosteen micropropagation, its seems feasible with this apomictic crop if you want manggis go to bali! top quality like you will neverf fined here! about 0.40 - 6.0 $/kg depending how far you are from the mountains | About the Author Rev North qld 31st August 2010 8:16pm #UserID: 1806 Posts: 359 View All Rev 's Edible Fruit Trees |
