Some examples are banana,papaya, avocado,panama berry, blueberry, babaco, atemoya & cherimoya, all fruiting cacti (dragonfruit etc), passionfruit, tamarillo, pepino, naranjilla...

Thanks VF that was he type of list I need. The area where we are going to grow the fruit trees is the usual clay base that has been overlayed with about 1 1/2- 2 (3/4mt) foot of very fertile soil hence the need for shallow rooted trees.

Welcome. Don't discount some trees like mango, mulberry, figs and white sapote. They may be generally deeper rooted trees, but their roots are pretty persistent, and would do OK, especially if grown on a mound.
