Ernie starts with ... Hi, I was wondering if anybody has had the same problem with their Tahitian lime, my plant is 4 years old and very healthy, the plant flowers well and the fruit seems to set then over a short period of time it will drop all its fruit, I have wantered and fertilized as required. I also know a couple of other people in my area who have had the some problem. I am hoping somebody has had this problem and managed to solve it, if you have I would love to hear from you. The soil here is quite sandy but I have mulched the soil. cheers | About the Author Ernie Dundowran Beach 20th February 2012 12:07pm #UserID: 6584 Posts: 5 View All Ernie's Edible Fruit Trees |

snottiegobble says... The opposite has occurred for me, Ernie. The tree is 2 years old & still spindly because in my eagerness to pick my own limes I let 6 fruit mature. BTW My Tahitian is in soily sand with lots of sheep manure, potting mix & chicken manure pellets. I have since added more pellets, kitty litter & wetting granules. Very few immature fruit fell off & again I notice flowers & tiny fruit appearing. I do water in worm juice, & sulphate of potash occasionally. Hope that helps. | About the Author snottiegobble Bunno & Busso ( smack in the middle) 20th February 2012 2:14pm #UserID: 3468 Posts: 1458 View All snottiegobble's Edible Fruit Trees |
Ernie says... Hi Mary, yes we did think that so we made sure that the watering was even also, one of the guys mentioned grew Tahitian limes in northern QLd and he is also confused?? I have been adding sugar cane mulch now for a few months so hopefully this will correct some of the problems.....cheers Ernie | About the Author Ernie Dundowran Beach 20th February 2012 5:02pm #UserID: 6584 Posts: 5 View All Ernie's Edible Fruit Trees |

miss lou says... Apparently citrus can take up to 4 yrs to 'settle' and get established before they allow themselves to set fruit. Our meyer lemon, planted 4 yrs ago, has, every year, flowered, had pea sized fruit that never got any larger and then fell off. This is 1st year we have lemons that are full sized and ready to pick ! | About the Author miss lou central vic. 21st April 2012 11:57am #UserID: 6875 Posts: 1 View All miss lou's Edible Fruit Trees |
MaryT says... Hi miss lou - I wonder when you said it took 4 years for a lemon tree to fruit if you meant 4 years since you bought it? How old was the tree 4 years ago - was it a seedling or a grafted tree? I'd bought citrus that had flowered and fruited non stop since the day I brought them home and others that just sits there looking comfortable but won't produce at all. | About the Author MaryT Sydney 21st April 2012 12:42pm #UserID: 5412 Posts: 2066 View All MaryT's Edible Fruit Trees |
SouthernSteve says... Planted Tathian Lime Tree 6 years ago. Plenty of Fruit Set but never grew larger than 5-6mm then dropped off. Last summer a second Shoot came up from the base & it has produced good size fruit but they are all Rind & very little fruit. located in Southern Melbourne. Sandy soil but providing Chook manure as nutrient. Will this new branch improve or do I cut it out & start again? | About the Author SouthernSteve 12th February 2013 12:12am #UserID: 7713 Posts: 1 View All SouthernSteve's Edible Fruit Trees |
MaryT says... We discussed this problem recently on another thread, SouthernSteve; hope you find the answer there https://www.daleysfruit.com.au/forum/pomelo-fruit-problems/ | About the Author MaryT Sydney 12th February 2013 7:59am #UserID: 5412 Posts: 2066 View All MaryT's Edible Fruit Trees |
