WA quarantine

Damn those people, they screwed me on both my daleys and diggers orders. Looks like us sandgropers are going to have to source a number of things such as gauvas, jaboticaba etc elsewhere due to a new Myrtle rust outbreak, which will be in place for the foreseeable future. I don't see how they can put the state's economy and environment ahead of my edible garden.

thanks bonnie and rev, I do frequent Tass1 but haven't been to wandilla (bunnings in my area isn't so great), I am a bit worried that Tass1 may also be effected since Joe sources a lot of plants from over east also.

What a major bummer!! there goes grummichamas etc too? Looks like TASS1 n Wandilla will do a roaring trade?? Rev - u are not far off the mark I reckon. WA soils are being raped n pillaged - and most of the biomass goes o/seas. Instead of fixing the salinity problems - we just engineer wheat etc, to cope with it = a band-aid.

You would not believe the state of the natural environment north of here - due to goats. Why? cos' goat is the most widely eaten meat in the world and the feral goats are very popular in the live meat trade. There is actually a feral goat "permissable limit" per acre and they (pastoralists) are waaay in excess of this - AgWA seems to turn a blind eye.

I try not to "rant" on this forum - but I have driven the road from Carnarvon to Geraldton so many times and seen the damage over a number of years - and it is just appalling. We have had to drive 20km/hr in a 110 zone cos' the dust was so bad - there is no ground cover left at all and the bushes are naked from the ground up to about 1.5 m.

It's just crazy. Ok - off my soap box now... :-)))

Hell Amanda no wonder youre heading down south! I thought before coming here the first time( WA) how isolated.
Then I realised once here ( for a holiday) we dont need the East states or anywhere else for that matter. Now as a resident there is that feeling of isolation due only to quarantine!
How bloody ridiculous!

I also had a rio grande on order before the quarantine came into effect, it is high on my hit list. I know there is another thread floating around but i will ask again if anyone knows of anyone in WA selling them or maybe someone would be kind enough to share some seed?

ooooh, the cherry of the Rio Grande has eluded me for too long now. Daleys list them in dribs and drabs, and sell out as they list them. Kath tells me none will be available for 12 months. I noticed that one of the competition from Mullumbimby has them listed so might have to get one from there, unfortunately.

Yes, I will be picking one up from the same place when I travel through for work next month. Have meant to add it to my slowly growing collection of Eugenia for too long now.

that's alright just take a moment of silence and think of us 'rio grande-less' western australians when you are buying one of your many plants.

Hi John Mc, Interesting that you were told that Daley's had no Rio Grande Cherries. I dropped in today and there were a few there. But maybe they keep a few in the retail nursery? I also noticed a few Lakoocha there, but they aren't listed on here...

Hi BJ,
yep, just checked again. In production. They must keep the few they have for personal shoppers. Is it worth a trip up from near Newcastle do you think? Is it very big? Does it take long to look around the place?
I sound like a cop with all these questions, hey?

Its over 3hrs from here, but I had work in Lismore, so made a quick dash out there. It is fantastic and I tried not to buy everything I wanted for the protection of my bank balance, though Im regretting it a little now. I only spent half an hour, but it could have been alot more.

If you do decide to make the drive, make sure you visit the other nursery a few ks up the road, as between the two, you're pretty much assured of getting everything you could want.

Forbidden Fruits near Mullimbimbi. Spectacular views around there too.
They also have other Eugenia like stipitata and myrcianthes which are hard to get.

Do they not have the Rio Grande Cherries in Perth? I brought a plant a while back from a nursery that was in the back corner of the fruiting section thinking it was one. So now I am not sure what it is.

If anyone wants any of these plants I can source in WA. Currently have Rio de la Grande Cherry, grown from seed from a Perth plant.
