Feijoa - Mammoth (Grafted) 9/10

Julie 1's Edible Fruits
Update: 2580 days 23hrs

Comments: -

Loved eating these as a kid. Pineapple, strawberry like taste but more fragrant and less acidic..

Texture is more like a kiwifruit but flesh is slightly grainy.

My two trees spent a few years in pots in the cold Adelaide hills and were not happy.

They went in the ground when we moved to southern Adelaide. Sat there for the first two seasons but has great fruit set and leaf growth this 3rd year. With good deep regular watering, the fruit size and harvest has really improved, up to 5cm long and egg shaped. Mid to late April and they are not ripe yet. Survived our VERY harsh summer this year with 0% leaf or fruit burn due to decent watering.

Flower petals are delicious and can be eaten without affecting the fruiting body.

Black Sapote - Maher (Cutting) 10/10

Andrew26's Edible Fruits
Update: 3202 days 11hrs

Comments: - This is the start of my tropical plant growing. The picture shows my 1st, and cheapest  greenhouse - an old fridge with the sides jigsawed out, and replaced with piecess of perspex and glass that I had lying around. At the moment it is a temporary home for black sapotes, coffees, blueberries, dragon fruit, and a pepino - with more on the way. When it gets a little too hot - the thermometer inside shows >=35oC, I crackopen the top door. It is kept warm - around 24oC O/N, even on below zero, frosty nights here in Clare, with a 70W incandescent glope, old quit and a tarp if it is raining. Next GH will be a shuttle with a clear polycarb top, before progressing to a poly tunnel, and finally, a twin walled polycarbonate GH with summer cooling and winter heating.

White Sapote - Vernon (Grafted) 9/10

Peter91's Edible Fruits
Update: 3514 days 16hrs

Comments: -

So far this has been my most productive white sapote in terms of growing, wouldn't even stop growing throughout winter in a small planter bag outside.

Bought as a pollinator variety and recently planted into the ground, hopefully it flushes new growth and begins to fruit in a few years.

Amazingly beautiful ornamental tree, the lime green fresh leaves are great to look at and soft to touch.

Added bonus to see if I can get this thing to fruit here, either way it's a nice tree for ornamental purposes.

PAWPAW - YELLOW YD1B HYBRID Carica papaya (Seedling) 10/10

Danny N1's Edible Fruits
Update: 3746 days 17hrs

Comments: -

Love Papaya Fruit, i am growing other varieties in Adelaide ( Southern Red and recent purchase of a Thai dwarf Torpedo - all purchased from Daley's), but thought i'd give

the PAWPAW - YELLOW YD1B HYBRID a try as well - going to have Papaya coming out of my ears haha. It is showing strong growth in only 10 eeks! purchased 2 from Daley's hopefully one is male and the other female, would be miffed if they were both the same sex!.

Papaya is in a 430mm pot with rich organics and mulch also the pot has a 30mm layer of volcanic rock which ensures excellent drainage at all times. I have also drilled over a dozen extra holes into the sides and bottom of the pot - potting mix is my own blend that retains moisture so the need to water is just a light sprinkle wit a watering can.

Again the Papaya is living in my semi-enclosed pergola that has clear perspec sheeting allowing filtered light and sheilding from hot winds and cold nights. I have done all i can the rest is up to nature now haha.

Avocado - Reed (A) (Grafted) 8/10

Danny N1's Edible Fruits
Update: 3746 days 22hrs

Comments: -

I was very excited to recieve my Grafted Reed Avocado from Daleys!, but on closer inspection when i opened the box revealed that the avocado plant was riddled with Mealey Bugs - i mean they were everywhere on the avocado plant, other than that plant was in tip top shape.

After treating the Mealey Bugs i have potted the avocado - have given this plant a little more TLC than the other tropical plants i have as avocado's are notoriously fussy when it comes to wet feet. It now sits in a big 510mm pot which has been turned into an "Air Pruned Pot" - this is my first time experimenting with an air pruned pot ( made these myself).

Many benefits with air prunning pots i.e increased drainage, no root bound problem, bigger tap roots and more vigerous growth. I will update progress on the Reed Avocado after an Adelaide winter which is quickly approaching with only 8 weeks left of summer!.

Rollinia - Brazilian Custard Apple (Seedling) 10/10

Danny N1's Edible Fruits
Update: 3746 days 22hrs

Comments: -

Another Plant experiment - this is strictly a Tropical Tree, but hey i have one now for the Temperate Adelaide Climate. I do have a good sized pergola with perspec's which provides filtered light and i have shade clothe'd the pergola as such creating a tropical micro climate.

The plant is in a 430mm pot so will not need to repot for another few years, plenty of organic's and mulch. The 430mm pot has been reworked to provide exceptional drainage, so far doing extremly well and loving where it is : P.

For those living in Adelaide and love the more exotic plants ( Challenge of growing them!) would love to see some comments of your endevours and or advice on growing tropical plants in our hot and dry temperate climate.

Dwarf Avocado - Wurtz (A) (Grafted)

Bek's Edible Fruits
Update: 4534 days 12hrs

Comments: -

Bought this a few months ago. Hasn't really thrived, planted in a mound in the ground. The leaves have slowly dropped off one by one. The stem is still green though and can see some small buds so fingers crossed it will bounce back. Think it may have gotten baked in the hot sun and water didn't seem to soak into the soil properly so not sure it was getting sufficient water. We have just pulled it up, put it in a large pot and moved it to a more sheltered position to protect it from the harsh afternoon sun. Hopefully it will make it through as I looooove avocados
