Hi Inoxa1 Your feijoa won't be in a hurry to grow now where the season is already changing and the growing times is almost over except in the tropics. Expect a lot of growth during spring onwards. I have 3 feijoas bought last spring and they have all more than doubled their sizes. Be patient and take good care of it and you will be rewarded accordingly. Happy gardening :-)

Amanda's Edible Fruits
Update: 2557 days 23hrs

Comments: - Acca sellowiana. Sadly it's almost impossible to get named varieties in WA, especially now there is the myrtle rust problem and quarantine bans. So we are stuck with generic "non name" plants - which don't produce very impressive fruit.
The tree is easy to grow but can take some time to start flowering and fruiting - seems to vary for different people/plants and locations. Is prone to scale and sooty mould if grown in too much shade and/or damp conditions, here.
It's not bothered by the lime in our bore water.

Planted: 2014

Height 2.5 metres

Growing: In the Ground

First Fruited: 5 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Medium Sun

Pollination: Self Pollination

Fertiliser or Organics Used: Slow release organic chook manure pellets. Little and often.

Loved eating these as a kid. Pineapple, strawberry like taste but more fragrant and less acidic..

Texture is more like a kiwifruit but flesh is slightly grainy.

My two trees spent a few years in pots in the cold Adelaide hills and were not happy.

They went in the ground when we moved to southern Adelaide. Sat there for the first two seasons but has great fruit set and leaf growth this 3rd year. With good deep regular watering, the fruit size and harvest has really improved, up to 5cm long and egg shaped. Mid to late April and they are not ripe yet. Survived our VERY harsh summer this year with 0% leaf or fruit burn due to decent watering.

Flower petals are delicious and can be eaten without affecting the fruiting body.

10 Dec 2019 - started flowering last month albeit only a few. Wait and see if it will turn into fruits.
