Seedlings from the original plantation near Alstonville were used as rootstock for grafted modern varieties well into the 20th Century. Since the clearing of the Big Scrub the genetic diversity of this valuable nut species has been reduced significantly. Very hardy and easily grown along most of Australia's east coast and even down into Victoria.
