The soft drink named for this citrus tree - 'Chinotto' is delicious with a unique flavour. It is well suited to this, as the taste of the flesh is bitter but the sweet citrus flavours develop with cooking. The rind is candied and added to Panettone, an Italian speciality, popular at Christmas celebrations. It is a thornless, attractive small tree with orange like fruits, well suited to container growing or small gardens.

A sour and bitter orange that is hardy, vigorous and more frost hardy than other citrus. The best orange for making marmalade. Mid Season, matures 1-2 months before Valencia.

Pine Nut

An attractive large pine tree that bears cones of edible nuts. These are considered a delicacy in Mediterranean style cooking, due to their sweet, buttery flavour. Trees can be expected to start producing cones from about year 6. But can take longer. Each cone holds about 50 nuts and 100 kg of cones holds about 20 kg of nuts. Grows best in dry cooler areas with excellent drainage. Trees can set nuts on their own, but cones may be poorly filled. Plant two or more to improve nut set.

It is quite cold tolerant and can be grown in cooler locations like Adelaide and Melbourne. Black Booyong can grow to 20m, an important species in rainforest plantings. It is native to eastern Australia.
