Extremely strong pungency that is akin to hot mustard, wasabi produces vapours that stimulate the nasal passages more than the tongue. Generally used as a sauce that makes sushi or other foods more flavourful by adding spice. Use the stem sparingly and finely grated. Grows naturally along stream beds in cool mountain rivers valleys of Japan. Challenging to grow in Australia. Requires cool, moist, shaded conditions to thrive. It takes about 18 month - 2 years for plants to mature, in the meantime use the leaves and the leaf stems in salads, curries and pickled accompaniments.

Dwarf tree producing a rounded fruit with the later crop being more pear-shaped. The thick flesh has a smooth-texture, good flavour and high oil content. It shows some cold tolerance and bears consistently heavy crops. H June to August The fruit is medium sized with green leathery pliable skin and a small seed. This is an excellent choice for backyards, higher yields in trees that are cross pollinated with a 'B'variety avocado near by.

Large, flat fruit of excellent quality, non-astringent and seedless when grown on its own. Being a dwarf variety it is well suited to backyards but is also a good commercial variety. Will fruit as early as March in the subtropics. Ichikikijiro generally produce only one flush of growth in the spring so don't be alarmed if your tree is not growing in summer, this habit contributes to their small stature.
