Hazelnut - Halls Giant

Halls Giant is the main pollinator for Ennis. It does not produce a big crop of nuts but it does shed large amounts of pollen late in the season. Every planting of hazelnuts should contain at least 20% pollinators.

Jumbo Nut, high yielding. Preferred variety for all markets. It requires cross pollination with the Halls Giant. The tree is moderately vigorous and has few suckers and is an abundant cropper. The shell is moderately firm and light brown with pronounced darker-colored stripes. Nuts are large and attractive, averaging 4.2 g, and have a kernel percentage of 48%.
Vanilla Vine

The fermented pod of this climbing orchid is harvested from the Vanilla Vine or orchid, an aromatic sweet scents used to flavour cakes, and perfumes. Must be hand pollinated. The only insect capable of pollinating the blossom is the Melipona, a bee (see video) , native only to Mexico so all plants must be hand pollinated within 12 hours of the flower opening. The pods take nine month to develop.

Wild oranges are a tasty bush tucker food. Indigenous Australians made frequent use of it long before European arrival. It is green when unripe. When it ripens, it becomes soft and has a fragrant smell. The inside is yellow or orange. It is still commonly eaten in the desert today. Capparis mitchellii can grow up to six metres in height. The plant's flowers are large and coloured white or cream. It prefers sandy to clay loams but will grow on rocky hillsides. It is a host for the Caper White butterfly and is one of the preferred foods of the Spotted Bower Bird
