Compact and bushy, perfect for pots with round fruit flattened on the bottom. Look similar to a small apple. Pick when the whole fruit (or at least 80%) has just turned brownish red. Texture is crisp and light we consider it an excellent fresh or dried variety. Fruit size 35-45mm. Developed at the Chico institute in California, this is an early fruiting variety. (Jan - March) Cross pollinate for best results.

Blueberry - Powderblue

Noted because the fruit has a powdery blush and is medium in size. It is one of the toughest blueberry varieties with a harvest later in the season. A bigger harvest can be achieved by mixing with other rabbiteyes such as the tifblue or others will suit. A great selection for QLD and northern NSW as they don't need many chill hours for the fruit to set. Often the white flowers have a flush of pink. Grows well in pots and has thick enough foliage to be used as a hedge in summer but lets the light through in winter.

It is rarely eaten as a fresh fruit but is used to makes sauces, preserves and a popular yuzu vinegar. In Korea thinly sliced fruits are combined with sugar and honey to make a thick marmalade like syrup. Yuzu kosho is a spicy Japanese sauce made from green or ripe yellow yuzu zest, chillis and salt. Planted in a large pot from seed, now it grows everywhere. Fertilized with seasol. Today I just cut off all the seed heads so it can produse more leaf. This is what I was told by my aunt to do. Lets see if she's right!
