My Edible Fruit Trees: Lychee
Lychee
Lychee - Kwai May Pink (B3) (Grafted) 10/10 Kate816's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1176 days 4hrs Comments: - This lychee is doing awesome in the ground. Turns out they like slightly acidic soil, so it's been planted next to our blueberry hedge to take advantage of the work already done to acidify that area. It suffered shock and stress when we first planted it, lost all its leaves and appeared dormant over Christmas, however it's green, leafy, happy and thriving now. Still too little t produce, but it attempted to fruit last year (kept our local bees happy!) but dropped all its fruit. Maybe this year or next year we will get a harvest but, even if not, patience is key. Height 1 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 First Fruited: 6 Months from Purchase in Pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Dynamic lifter When I Fertilise: Yearly Was this review helpful? Will plant this into a pot after 1-2 weeks outside and provide updates. Native Lychee (Seedling) 4/10MungoMango1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1977 days 24hrs Comments: - Nice tree, takes a bit to get them started though, they seem to like heavy mulching, and fairly consistent applications of liquid fertilizer, however there is no fruit just yet, but it did have flowers last year 2015. Not a native Lychee, just don't know how to go back to start of this particular record. Its a Lychee KIAMANA... Lychee - Bosworth 3 (Cutting) 10/10 Edward3's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2347 days 6hrs Comments: - This variety produces large fruit with very good taste and many have small seed. We prune the top after fruiting to keep the size manageable. Fruiting Months January Planted: 1999 Height 3 metres Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 15 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 8 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pruned By: 10% in Pollination: Self Pollination Pest Control: Macadamia nut borer is a problem which spoils some of the crop. A thorough spraying with insecticide all over the tree when the fruit is still quite small, including inside the tree to eliminate the moths which harbour there, is very effective. Lychee Tai So 7/10Amanda's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2563 days 5hrs Comments: - Marcotted. Only very small as yet. Doesn't like the lime in our bore water so has to managed the same as the Kwai Mai Pink we have. Tai So is reputed to be a more heat tolerant variety than Kwai Mai Pink - for Perth. It will be interesting to see how it performs in my slightly colder and wetter winters here. I am hoping that cross-pollination will improve fruit set for both lychees. Planted: 2018 Height 0.5 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring SpringPollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Acid lovers balanced, alternating with slow release organic chook manure pellets. Seasol every month or so. I added some lychee skins as mulch and have noticed a seedling (from a store bought lychee) has sprung up in the pot also.
