Mandarin - Emperor (Grafted) 7/10Terrastrega's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1530 days 1hrs Comments: - Just purchased my Emperor Mandarin tree few weeks ago. Its in a
pot (38cm diameter & 35cm height). Potting mix is Richgrow rose and citrus potting mix, fertilise with bit of blood and bond and fruit and citrus premium fertiliser, and a dash of potash. I use Tee Tree Mulch
but leave about 2 inches unmulched around the trunk of the tree. The
nursery advice to water twice a day here on Brisbane, so I have been
doing that so far. It looks healthy and doing well. It
gets full sun till about 2 - 3pm each day, after which it gets partial
sun. Height of tree from soil line upwards is about 74cm. potting mix and
fertiliser and so far all seem healthy. Late 2013, Update: Tree is still in a big pot although not the dwarf varity. Has plenty of flowers and little fruit forming (Early September). Will be transfering in the ground after fruiting. Had not done so earlier as we were renting but now have bought a house and can start putting my trees in the ground! June 2014: It is finally in the ground. trimmed it right back and now lots of new growth on it. I water almost daily depending on weather. A really good layer of small pine bark on top. Mandarins (Grafted) 8/10Amanda's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1800 days 11hrs Comments: - I could eat Afourer mandarins all day...they are the best mandarin so far, imho. They are deep orange, juicy, sweet - but still have that lovely mandarin tang, easy to peel and not many seeds. Highly recommend them. We have had major dramas with the new Dwarf and Semi Dwarf rootstocks here - due to the sand and lime in the bore water. It's been incredibly frustrating have to pull out all of the dwarf trees we bought and replace them with full-size rootstock mandarin trees. A couple of the Semi dwarfs are doing ok - but it depends on the scion. My research seems to indicate that there can be problems with Aforurer and some rootstocks for eg. Planted: 2015 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Balanced Acid lovers mostly, sometimes organic slow release chook manure pellets. Little and often. Sulphur in spring, iron sulphate in winter. Was this review helpful? Dwarf Mandarin - Imperial 9/10Malanda231's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1889 days 11hrs Comments: - Espaliered. Did not fruit until 3rd year of planting (I assume it was establishing itself). One dwarf is not enough in long run if there are two or more people in household who like mandarins. Have heard it can produce lower harvest bi-yearly but not seen that happen yet.
