My Wurtz struggles in the heat and growth is sidewards instead of upwards.
There is a good summary of 15 avocado cultivars here: http://www.sunraysianurseries.com.au/library/file/466.pdf

I do struggle with the forum when you suddenly have to change your user name, password etc because it refuses to recognise you.
The sunraysia appraisal of avos will only be true for their area which is really outside their preferred climate. In a tropical climate my wurtz is tall and developed 7m wide crown later.I keep it to 6m.Hazzard wants to be a big tree but I keep it to a broad 6m also.Shephard seems to be the naturally smallest I have but it would be 7 ot 8m if I did not discipline it.
Hot and dry is really what avos are not keen on but hot and humid is ok wiothing reason.

My Rincon is not more than 5 feet tall and its nearly 15 years old. It is however about 15 feet wide Lol.
Wurtz is small and slow too but not as extreme as Rincon.
I don't really believe in the idea of a dwarf Avocado, I think you are always better served with tall trees. If everything you grow is five feet tall your overall fruiting space is nothing compared to if everything you grow is 20 feet tall.

I have two gwens, a wurtz And a rincon, all dwarves. The gwen that has been in the ground for 3 years has set about ten avos this season. Its about the size of a person. The wurtz is only a year in and its doubled in size and set fruit as well (so did my 1 year old hass and reed for that matter). I cut them off cuz its too early for them to fruit. My rincon is right under a massive gum and is not doing that great.

Thanks for all of your responses! I am now thinking that i might need two trees planted in the one hole and have to keep their size tamed with a little steel. So now to try and decide on two tasty varieties for northern NSW, about 1km from the ocean
