Dwarf Persimmon - Fuyu (NA)

Fuyu is a semi-dwarf variety, well suited to growing in small backyards and can be kept to 2m with pruning. The fruit is large and flat, orange-red in colour with a sweet, mild flavour. Great eaten crunchy but just luscious when left to go soft. Besides producing delicious fruit, Persimmons are highly ornamental with their beautiful autumn foliage. Non astringent, so can be eaten when still hard. When young, protect from hot afternoon sun, and when dormant, from wet conditions. Seedless when grown on their own. If cross pollinating with another variety they can have seeds in the flesh as shown in the display picture.

A fast growing tropical fruit tree, this dwarf form can fruit within 1-2 years. Fruit can be eaten fresh and used for drinks and jellies, the flavour is said to resemble pineapple. Fruit is borne is hanging clumps and change from bright green to orange when ripe. The fruit will fall from the tree and then ripen. Care must be taken when eating as the seed has spines. An attractive tree on its own.

A popular selection in Asia, the sweetest selection. Very similar to the Red Wax Jambu however has white waxy skin and is sweeter, but it is much more cold sensitive. They generally don't have seeds but may on rare occasions, depending on pollination.

Often called 'Bartlett' or Bon Chretien. Medium to large in size and very juicy with a sweet flavour. Pale green at picking, ripening to a clear attractive yellow, sometimes with a slight blush. Mandarin - Emperor

As a kid , growing up in Natal, South Africa , we had numerous trees in our farm. The common name used for this fruit in Natal is MADONI. There was a bush variety also which grew near small creeks. We called this bush madoni. The fruit is much sweeter.

Lilly-Pilly with very nice fruit, eaten fresh. Easy to grow, fast growing, and produces fruit in subtropics easily. I used a hedge as a windbreak for coastal winds and it worked well.
