Dwarf Coffee - Catuai (Seedling) 10/10Ahimsa Cottage's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3759 days 0hrs Comments: - I hope to use the beans to make our own coffee eventually. I initially planted these trees at the back of our property which had a lot of clay and only managed to water them once a month and as a result their growth was slow. I decided to transplant them to along side the house improve the soil by adding peat moss and lots of mulch and where i could regularly water them. They have increased in size x5 in the last 6 months. In April this year the tree began to fruit bright red coffee cherries, i picked these squeezed the green beans and soaked them in water for 2 days. i poped these beans into a mesh bag rubbed them to remove the membrane. Then put the beans onto paper kitchen towel sitting on a baking rack. Over the period of a couple of days the beans dry out, cracks form at the top so that the white parchment starts to spilt. The parchment layer can be picked off to reveal the green bean. I have stock piling these green bean til i have enough 500 grams to trial roasting with pop corn machine. i will attach images. Fruiting Months March, April, May, June, July Planted: 2011 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 2 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Winter and Spring Pruned By: 50% in Spring Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: organic xtra Organic Status:Organic Question:
