Comments: - very thick skinned fruit. Supposed to be pink but apparently this happens in warmer climates. Skin is yellow-flesh 'pinkish' Has dozens of big plump fruit on it each year-shame we all hate grapefruit-planted it for my sister who moved a 5 hour drive away the year it started fruiting !!!

Cuttings taken from grapes that produce my absolute favorite wine (Bress). They were trying to produce delectable fruit within months of being cut from the parent plant!

Prolific bearing, good coverage over arch in 2 years.Easy to prune back in winter.Lovely sweet grapes. Birds and possums a problem.

seedless.  My first batch of fruit from this vine last year tasted very incipid.  I must say the Crimson Seedless and Sultana both win hands down.

This seedless variety is very vigorous and the fruits are large and sweet and crunchy with good flavour.  My favourite grapes so far. Grapes are hard work with all the pruning and spraying required.  And then you have to protect the fruit from birds and rats.  Still, the quality fruit is worth it.  My vines are cane pruned.

Question:

The flowering seems to be unpredictable.  Some years it flowers heaps and other years very little.  Some first year canes will produce flower shoots while other first year canes won't.  I still cannot figure it out.  Anyone's got any bright ideas?

Update 2012 fruiting well but fruit are (as you would expect) smaller than shop bought due to lack of thinning sprays. Silvereyes (birds) love the grapes the little buggers.

The thomuscat is supposed to be a white, seedless grape which is a cross between a sultana and white muscat, but with a strong muscat flavour (yummy ... I hope). It is supposed to mature early to mid-season. I planted it to screen the fence between my lime and orange. It appears to be more interested in growing up rather than out (which is fine). It was just a little stick when I planted it in early 2010. It is planted so that it is near a limestone retaining wall - which seems to keep it happy despite my attempts to acidify the soil in the bed (as there is a lime tree about 1.5 metres from the grape).

the 2011-2012 crop was split by a late rain. The plant otherwise seems very happy and growing like a weed

Large green grasshoppers are the only critters I've found eating my tree. Just remove them by hand.

Grapefruit - Thompson Pink (Grafted)

Comments: -

This is a sport of the common Marsh grapefruit variety, differentiated from its parent by its pinkish coloured flesh and seedlessness. Apparently the pink colour only develops under ideal growing conditions and I am not sure that it will receive enough heat in our garden. The taste is similar to Marsh.

This tree is part of our citrus hedge - a row of citrus trees planted along a north-west facing boundary fence at 1m spacing. The plan is for the trees to grow into an effective hedge that will be kept pruned to about 2m high. We prepared the planting area for the citrus hedge by incorporating "fruit & veg" soil mix into our existing sandy soil. Mushroom compost was worked into the bottom of the planting hole which was then backfilled with more "fruit and veg" mix. The area was lightly mulched with mushroom compost, leaving the area about 8cm around the trunk clear.

Label doesn't say what type of red grapefruit it is. It's struggling a bit - had to severely prune to get the framework right.
