Kumquat - Nagami (Grafted) 9/10 Slicko's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3535 days 13hrs Comments: - I had always thought that the only thing Kumquats were good for was the making of marmalade. Until, until that is when I recently had one to eat. The initial reation was the reaction to the sourness of the juice, but then as I started to chew on the skin I realised just how sweet it was. I was an immediate convert! I am growing this in a pot and it has suffered some fruit drop in the hot dry weather we are having.at the moment. I am going to have to get a good layer of mulch on it. Fruiting Months May Planted: 2015 Height 0.8 metres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Winter and Spring Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: chook poop ciitrus fertiliser When I Fertilise: Spring Pest Control: I imagine that it will be subject to the usual citrus pests; leaf miner, gall wasp etc and the usual treatments will apply. Kumquat - Meiwa (Grafted) 9/10 Pademelon1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4051 days 4hrs Comments: - I think it's a Meiwa, but It could be a calamondin (or something else completely). I'm only going off the round shape of the fruit. Gets attacked by caterpillers every season, which does a bit of damage. Plenty of flowers and small green fruit, but most are eaten by birds or blown off (the wind really is this plant's nemesis) leaving a harvest of generally between 15-60 fruit. fruit are decent size, varying between slightly smaller than a Nagami to double/triple the size. the rind/pith is quite bitter, but the fruits are great in marmalade or stored in alcohol. They do contain viable seeds, and they ripen throughout the year (which is strange because they only flower once a season). I rarely trim the plant, but when I do, it quickly regrows to its former size where it then stays.
