Macadamia - 816 (Cutting) 9/10Health101orgarticles1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 689 days 11hrs Comments: - December 2007: Erect ("upright"), at least in my situation anyway. Or ie has a central leader / just one main vertical trunk, without any big side branches. I want minor side branches to branch out at right angles / 90° for at least enough room for a comfortable and unbreakable foothold for climbing, to avoid the branch peeling off and breaking at a weaker 45° etc angle. I can do that by putting a clothes peg etc on the young trunk and also against the new young branch, so that it grows out at a 90° angle instead of about 45°. West facing, and against very busy 4 lane asphalt / blacktop road, and concrete footpath. Full sun now, but for some of the first 11 years was totally or slmost fully shaded by my local council's free donated Acacia decurrens, originally a tubestock seedling. My great and maybe first and successful experiment in companion planting, and also nitrogen-fixing. I also put a large swale or berm, from a Vietnamese next door neighbour's new house excavation, although including some very big and small concrete blocks that I said that I did not want, some of which were put back at their partly built front entrance. First young nuts noticed after 12 years, in Dec 2019. It might have fruited before, among the acacia's branches, in its full or almost full shade. Macadamia - Bush Nut (Seedling) 10/10Edward3's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1517 days 5hrs Comments: - Produces good crop of nuts each year. Handsome tree with beautiful pink flower racemes. Top pruned the tree to half size so as to be able to reach nuts. This resulted in a much denser lower tree. Fruiting Months April Planted: 2004 Height 5 metres Growing: In the Ground Fruit Harvest: 100 Fruit Per Year First Fruited: 4 Years from Seed Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Self Pollination When I Fertilise: Never Pest Control: Main problem are Rozellas and cockatoos - when young nuts are forming, they destroy every single one of the large crop of nuts. Must put netting over nuts within reach so as to save some of the crop. Some nuts affected by macadamia nut borer. Was this review helpful? Dwarf Macadamia - A16 (Cutting) 5/10Health101orgarticles1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1559 days 5hrs Comments: - If against a driveway, eg against a car's paint, and passengers skin, it has too sharp leaves, at least if not pruned enough. Walnut - English (Grafted) 7/10Tabs's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2057 days 23hrs Comments: - var. Chandler. While I got walnuts from this plant, I never really got it to grow well. It ended up with a root rot fungus which I successfully eliminated but it never was happy in a pot. My recommendation is that although you can grow them in Sydney, its best to plant these trees in the ground. I ended up giving this plant to someone who has the room to let it grow. The closely related pecans, though, are doing well in their pots. Height 80 Centimetres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: worm juice When I Fertilise: Spring Organic Status:Organic Question: I planted my macadamia tree in winter, and come spring have started to get brown patches on some of the leaves. dwarf coconut-unknown var (Seedling) 7/10JohnMc1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2893 days 0hrs Comments: - I know I'm having myself on with these dwaft coconuts but the foliage is nice and besides, I like palms anyway. They got through last winter easily and have doubled in growth over the last year. I'm not expecting them to fruit anytime soon but they're a good show off to my visitors. At the moment they're in 25lit bonzai bags, and will have to be potted up into something bigger next year if the growth keeps happening.
