A tough tree, but slow establishment; Special care is needed when new leaves come out on very hot days, as the heat can easily burn them. No problem to survive the Winter in NSW, just hibernate in Winter. Grow around 30cm yearly.

Planted: 2009

Height 1.1 metres

any self pollinating longan fruit tree? Is this longan tree suit to plant in robinvale? The weather here can have frost in winter and up to 45 degree in summer.

Chose this variety based on internet descriptions of fruit taste. Extremely slow growing. Fruit rather small but nice sweet taste.

Have now (2016) moved it to a different spot with different soil and it is growing better.

This tree is finally getting a go on, it has done nothing for the past 2 years, and has a flush of new growth and looks fabulous at last. Slow to establish and much less vigorous than a seedling.

The first crop in 2011 was delicious and the birds ignored the fruits.

Very slow to establish.  Hope to see better growth this year.  Purchased from Daleys.

September 2009:  No growth activity.  Applied sulphate of potash and watered in.

October 2009:  No growth activity, and no, the plant is not dead.  Applied a handful of dynamic lifter.

November 2009:  Cannot see any growth activity.  Continued with twice weekly watering and weekly inspection for pests/diseases.

December 2009 to January 2010:  Not much growth activity recorded.

February 2010:  Can see some growth activity this month.  The plant has grown about 5cm taller and carries newer and bigger leaves.

October 2012:  The plant is much bigger now and looks healthy.  The speed of growth was noticeable in late 2011 and today stands at approx 70cm tall.  Has started flowering.

Question:

Why my Longan plant not thriving. Leaves are yellowing and not sprouting any new shoots at all. Seems like in the state of suspension for one whole year and wondering if it is dying.

It is a bit fussy, the Logan - it looks like you have it in too much sun, I'm surprised it is still alive. I have mine in a pot under my jacaranda tree and it is doing very well, though I bought it as a seedling not so long ago.
