Small Leaf Tamarind 8/10Sayadr's Edible FruitsUpdate: 779 days 20hrs Comments: - Attractive endangered native fruiting tree. Took a few years to become established with frost protection and regular watering. Survived years of harsh drought with minimal watering. First time it has fruited since planting about 7 years ago. Appears to be a substantial amount of fruit on the tree. Fruit is attractive but very tart, consisting mostly of a large seed and thin flesh. Fruiting Months February and March Planted: 2015 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 2 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 7 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Winter Autumn and WinterPollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Chicken droppings couple of times a year Pest Control: None Organic Status:Organic Was this review helpful? Tamarillo - Red 8/10Waterfall's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3142 days 24hrs Comments: - Very unusual looking yet attractive plant with some very large leaves. I have it in the back corner of my yard in a corner which is sheltered from wind. Doesn't get a lot of sun in winter but will get plenty in summer. Has grown very fast and is loaded with fruit now. One branch with about 20 fruits got too heavy and snapped in the wind, its still half attached so I have strapped it up to prevent further damage, the fruit held on for a couple of months and fully ripened. Fruiting Months July and August Planted: 2014 Height 4 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 30 Fruit Per Year First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Summer and Spring Pollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: chicken poo and mulch When I Fertilise: Yearly Pest Control: Had some aphids and snails, yates product spray removed aphids, multiguard sorted out the snails. Will need to net for birds. Organic Status:Partially Organic Was this review helpful? Small Leaf Tamarind (Seedling) 6/10Pademelon1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3159 days 22hrs Comments: - I originally bought a rare yellow fruited variety of Diploglottis campbellii, but unfortunately the possums ate it. Couldn't find another seller of the yellow variety who would ship or was nearby, so I settled with the more common red/orange one. This one is currently in the shade and isn't doing much. Tolerates transplanting very well. I think it would be better off in the sun with plenty of water, but I don't have a location for a large tree like it with those conditions. Was this review helpful? Tamarillo - Red (Grafted) 8/10Nathan1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4232 days 5hrs Comments: - Settling in happily and growing, in a bit of a precarious spot, near excavation and site of new retaining wall. Will just have to be careful :) DOH.. After presenting some small fruit and looking quite promising through summer 2012, it declined rapidly, and seemed to go black-ish, lose all of its leaves, and die.. Have seen several with similar behaviour in the local area, but need to read up on what it might be Planted: 2011 Height 40 Centimetres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: Self Pollination When I Fertilise: Spring Organic Status:Organic Was this review helpful? Tamarillo - Red (Seedling)Kathy2's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4436 days 1hrs Comments: - Great big leaves. Juicy trunk. Is taking a little while to settle into my garden. I tried to grow some from bought seed but have had no luck so far. This one is a gift from a friend. Spring 2011: some new babies planted and my original has FLOWERS! Despite the evil palm trees dropping leaves and trying to kill it, and mites and green caterpillars doing their best to eat it, she is happy enough and has flowers everywhere! Summer 2012: We had a LOT of heavy rain and wind in Spring and a lot of the tiny fruit was knocked off, as well as an entire branch thanks to the evil palm trees (how I hate them!). We still have some and I am so excited to try them. I am sure that now the weather has warmed up we will be eating them soon! Planted: 2010 Height 1 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 3 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: No Pest Control: sap-sucking mite heavan = soap sprays don't seem to work, draagon's blood is the best. The cold weather seems to have helped with the mite problem. Green caterpillars love it too = I am trying Dipel this year. Was this review helpful? Tamarillo - yellowKathy2's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4436 days 1hrs Comments: - Spring 2011: my gorgeous friend gave these to me as a gift but unfortuately they got mixed up with the red ones so I don't know which is which! Eep! I guess I will just have to wait until next year to find out! Planted: 2011 Height 25 Centimetres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 3 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pest Control: Watch out for the mites. They LOVE the tamarillos. I have noticed though that the one in more sunlight has fewer mite issues. I've tried a few sprays and Dragon's Blood works the best. Was this review helpful? Tamarillo - Red (Seedling) 8/10Lucinda1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4967 days 8hrs Comments: - My little townhouse Peramculture garden is bursting with edible plants. One of my favourites is the tamarillo: I have three in the garden (doing very well, despite a severe frost a couple of months ago) and one in a pot (not doing so well). These very pretty trees tend to put on most of their leaves at one level, and so have a lovely shape, a gentle curve at the top of the canopy and red pendulous fruits hanging below it. They are pretty easy to grow, even though my place is a bit challenged with respect to sunlight, and always attract comments from visitors. Small-leaved tamarind (Seedling) 9/10Linnie's Edible FruitsUpdate: 5107 days 20hrs Comments: - Best jam I've ever tasetd from a bush-tucker species... delicious... and even the fresh, raw fruit are good if you enjoy seriously tart but yummy things. Mine hasn't fruited yet... it was grown from seeds from the 'jam' tree. Looks to be thriving in the rainforest patch down below, where there is (occasionally) lots of water and shade from surrounding rainforest trees, but did endure a few years of hot sun initially.
