Olive 4/10

VicTim's Edible Fruits
Update: 5910 days 0hrs

Comments: - Unsure of variety. Purchased from Bunnings and called 'Giant Olives'. Have had it for almost two years and growth has been negligible.

Planted: 2008

Height 1.8 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 1

Sun/Shade: Low Sun

Pollination: Self Pollination

Organic Status:Organic

Question: Growth is severely halted. We have a pine nut tree growing near by which has outstripped this olive tree's growth rate.

Olive Tree 7/10

Bizibee's Edible Fruits
Update: 5280 days 18hrs

Comments: -

I forgot what type of olive tree this is, but I do remember I bought it from a nursery and the  main reason I bought it was because it produced very large fleshy olives.  I've had in a pot for 2 years.  It's not doing as well as I'd like it to.

Height 1 metres

Olive- Swan Hill (Cutting)

Speedy's Edible Fruits
Update: 5018 days 17hrs

Comments: -

'Swan Hill' is a non-fruiting cv. found here in Swan Hill, Vic.
material was taken to the USA in the 1962
by Dr Hudson Hartmann PhD. and found to produce no pollen or fruit.
It is now very widely planted in many municipalities across USA as a low allergenic, non-messy tree for amenity planting.

There is a nursery in Arizona that holds the sole rights to propagation of this cultivar despite this it remains a relatively unknown tree in Australia.

I grow it as a curiosity and because the tree originated from this district.

Pollination: Cross Pollination

Olive - Arbequina (Seedling)

Cam's Edible Fruits
Update: 5660 days 17hrs

Comments: -

This plant is said to set fruits early and is more suitable in warmer areas. Why did it buy it then? Well it was my husband who bought it. He knew I wanted an olive tree, so when he saw the trees at Bunnings he picked this tree out of the lot.  ( *.* )

We planted this tree on the nature strip facing north/east. It has rather survived it's first Winter quite well, I guess olive trees in general are quite tough. There's hardly any growth in height but I see a lot of flower buds forming on the tree.

Planted: 2010

Height 80 Centimetres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 1

Pollination: Self Pollination

Olive - Kalamata (Grafted) 10/10

Birdybooo1's Edible Fruits
Update: 5014 days 18hrs

Comments: -

My mum went and impulsively purchased this olive tree 3-4 years ago. She neglected it, didn't water it, left it in the pot for the entire time. When I moved a year ago, mum gave me the plant because she had nowhere to put it. I planted it in the ground in the corner of our property.

Even though it was neglected, the plant sprouted flowers for us within months of being planted and gave us at least a kilogram worth of dark large olives. We left it on the tree hoping to collect them after a few more weeks...don't know what happened but they all disappeared! Would anyone know if birds eat olives? Or should I be cautious of my neighbours? lol.

Planted: 2011

Height 2.5 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Fruit Harvest: 1 kilograms per Year

First Fruited: 3 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Water Given in: Spring

Pollination: Self Pollination

Fertiliser or Organics Used: slow release all purpose fertiliser, trace minerals, sulphur potash

When I Fertilise: When Fruiting and Spring

Pest Control: Nothing attacks this tree, unless you want to count whoever ate them off my tree.

Organic Status:Organic

Question: Does anyone know if olives are eaten by native Australian birds? a Kilo of olives disappeared off my tree last year...
