CanistelAmanda's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1815 days 15hrs Comments: - Pouteria campechiana. I grew them from seeds - from a man called Mike in Cairns. It's been a long road with these seedlings and I have nearly lost them at times - but I finally have one growing well now, and another hanging in there. Fingers crossed. They don't like our winters here - but as they get bigger I suspect they will get hardier? Canistel (Seedling) 8/10Waterfall's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3167 days 3hrs Comments: - Just a small plant at the moment, it was very leggy when purchased it from forbidden fruits but the wind took care of that and blew the top off. Not sure this tree likes Sydney weather, lets see if it takes off next spring once its established. Seems to be frozen in time, not dead, just not doing anything really. I expect it will take off in spring. No growth last year at all, something better happen this year or its getting mulched. Canistel - Emma (Grafted)VF1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4276 days 13hrs Comments: - A cold-hardy variety I thought I would give a try. I 've eaten a round variety of Canistel from Tropical Fruit World and they were delicious- a thick, but smooth textured fruit whose flavour was very much like 'Juicy Fruit chewing gum' - I think it would be nice in smoothies. The fruit seems decorative too, when hanging on the tree. (Note: now winter, 2012. Temp. to 6C, plant unaffected. Will probably get slightly colder by about 1-1.5C, but looking good) Planted: 2012 Growing: In a Pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Was this review helpful?
