Custard Apple - African Pride (Grafted)Edward3's Edible FruitsUpdate: 251 days 21hrs Comments: - Said to be delicious and not requiring hand pollination, so want to try growing this. In 2022 most branches dried up so were trimmed off. Remaining small branch above graft survived and is growing well, so fingers crossed. Suspect the roots are very susceptible to phytophthora, so am applying Yates Anti Rot spray on leaves once in Winter and again in early Spring. Interesting to see if this helps. Custard Apple - Paxton Prolific (Grafted)Edward3's Edible FruitsUpdate: 251 days 21hrs Comments: - Said to be delicious, with fewer seeds, and not requiring hand pollination, so want to try growing this.Set 2 fruits in 2023, but syddenly all leaves dried up, so I removed the fruits and will wait to see if the tree will recover. Unfortunately, I found collar rot next to the soil and the tree died. Custard Apple - Paxton Prolific (Grafted)1010501's Edible FruitsUpdate: 945 days 8hrs Comments: - Plant arrived in in Feb 2020 in great condition with soil still damp. Will plant this into a pot after 1-2 weeks outside and provide updates. May 2020 - slowly, but consistently, growing since potting. We will see how it copes with winter in Toowoomba - may have to bring it inside on cool nights. Winter 2020: Brought inside every night. Jan 2021: Has put on a lot of new growth, now in 45L planter bag. Flowered, but set no fruit. September 2021: Looks worse for wear after staying outside in Toowoomba winter, but survived and putting on new growth. Rollinia - Brazilian Custard Apple (Seedling) 9/10Bruada1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1550 days 23hrs Comments: - I purchased this Rollinia bout 4 years ago out at Holliways Beach Markets off a lad down from Juletten selling tropical fruit trees. It sat around in it's pot for a couple of years till I got round to planting it out. Decided to try to top it at about 1 meter and pull the branchers out and tying them down till they stayed there, as I heard they are shallow rooted and will blow over in a blow so by keeping it low hope to not loose it in a cyclone and also make it easy to pick fruit. Maby would have toped it at 1-1/2 to 2 meters if doing it again to allow more room to spread fertliser and mulch underneath as this seems to be working fine. This is the first time it has fruited. Planted: 2018 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground First Fruited: 4 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring SpringPollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: Blood and Bone, pelitised Chicken shit, potash Organic Status:Organic Was this review helpful? Dwarf Custard Apple - Tropic Sun (Grafted) 8/10Amanda's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1809 days 20hrs Comments: - This is our very first fruit, but the tree has been flowering for the past 2yrs. Seems to have some trouble self pollinating so I may have to assist next time. It's almost totally deciduous in our winter here. It's growing strongly and is in a large raised bed facing north - in our pool area which has a 6ft brick wall around it - so a nice microclimate in winter and summer. Planted: 2014 First Fruited: 4 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Hand Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Balanced Acid lovers alternating with slow release organic chook manure pellets, little and often during the growing season. Sulphur in early spring if needed. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report 7 of 20 people found this review useful* You need your own My Edibles Page to contribute Quick & Easy |
Dwarf Custard Apple - Tropic Sun (Grafted) 10/10Malanda231's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1894 days 23hrs Comments: - Espaliered, looks awesome - took well to this and friends have commented. Love the fruit, not gritty/grainy like some other custard apples and small seeds too. No need to hand pollinate. Downside is that all of the fruit comes at once, quickly over a month from mid-feb to march in Brisbane. Must bag/net to protect from fruit fly - unripe fruit drops leading up to harvest as a natural thinning method so I bag by Feb and find fruit only start to get stung two weeks after the very first fruit drops. I harvest fruit to freeze the pulp to use later. Amazing with vanilla ice cream. I took a gamble with limited info online when I got this tree - it is a winner!!! I don't know why someone could not like the taste. Fruiting Months March Height 3 metres Growing: In the Ground Fruit Harvest: 3 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 3 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Autumn and Winter Summer, Autumn, WinterPollination: Self Pollination Organic Status:Certified Was this review helpful? Custard Apple - Paxton Prolific (Grafted) 8/10Fruitylicious1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2244 days 7hrs Comments: - 'Heavenly' best describe the taste of custard apple for me. Happy with the condition of the plant upon arrival. Big (about 1 meter high) lush and healthy. I hope it can cope well with the hot burning summer and cold frosty winter of inland NSW. I'm hoping the same for my African Pride variety. I will update at the end of summer next year. Apple - Huonville Crab Apple (Grafted) 9/10Fruitylicious1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2244 days 7hrs Comments: - First time to bear fruit after four years in a pot and boy its loaded. The fruit is small to medium size because it is a cross between a regular apple and a crab apple. It's got a pink flesh with a balanced flavor of sweetness and acidity. The tree is healthy, and a prolific bearer as evidenced by the image i have uploaded from my tree, pest free ATM. It's ornamental in itself because of the reddish leaves and stems Just nice for kids' lunch box. There is a similar apple released recently called Red Love apple bred from Switzerland by Markus Kobelt. Mine is discovered by Bob Magnus of Woodbridge Nursery growing in Huonville, Tassie. Growing as a 'Y' espalier ATM in my garden.
