Kiwiberry (wild Kiwifruit) (Seedling) 8/10CoolClimate1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 4408 days 0hrs Comments: - I bought this because it's self fertile, small size, hairless fruit, and because I wanted an edible climber for one of our sheds. It's growing really well, deciduous in winter. Flowered spring 2011 and appears to have a few small fruit. Continued to fruit each year, not huge yields. Kids adore the fruit, even when it was "overripe" to my taste. Planted: 2010 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Water Given in: Winter Pollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: Sheep manure When I Fertilise: Spring Was this review helpful? Kiwifruit - Issai (Cutting) 7/10HomegrownHeddibles1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 6113 days 20hrs Comments: - A deciduous, hairless kiwifruit, that is self-fertile. It requires protection from strong afternoon sun, preferring morning sun, so we have it planted towards the shady side of our Avocado. It copped a scorching in the extreme heat of early 2009, which forced it to drop its first crop, and some leads withered, but after a heavy pruning in winter 2009 it is now growing vigorusly again, covered in young leaves. Hopefully this year will see its first crop survive for eating; stand by for a review of the fruit! I presume it is sourced from a cutting. Fruiting Months February and March Planted: 2007 Height 1.5 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 First Fruited: 2 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Spring SpringPollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Compost, chicken poo, blood When I Fertilise: Spring Pest Control: Extreme heat - shade in the afternoon essential in those conditions. Kiwifruit - H4 Female 7/10 Crookie's Edible FruitsUpdate: 6141 days 5hrs Comments: - We planted these to grow over a gazebo type structure we built over the asparagus row. The plan is to have them provide some shade in summer for the asparagus, plus it's a good use of space! Hard to tell if this is going to break forth in spring or if it's struggling, there was growth prior to winter then the leaves dropped and now I've fed it and am waiting to see what happens. Kiwifruit - Bruno (female) (Cutting) 5/10 Amanda's Edible FruitsUpdate: 2583 days 3hrs Comments: - Removed. It didn't get enough chill here to flower reliably - even though Bruno needs far less chill than Hayward and should have been ok here. I actually prefer the Kiwiberries anyway.Large vines that need a very strong trellis and resent hot weather and especially hot winds. Need a great deal of water on hot days. Not a water-wise plant here. Doesn't like any alkalinity either - gets chlorosis readily. Planted: 2014 Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Balanced Acid lovers. Little and often during the growing season. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report 10 of 23 people found this review useful |
