Sum14- planted in full sun(north and west), 1m away from the bacon avocado. Even though bacon leaves burnt to ashes (literally) , mandarin leaves did not burn in 40c+ temp. While avocado tree recovered quickly with new leaves and branches, the mandarin leaves all curled up a bit, no growth for the whole summer and autumn.

Aug14-the mandarin was dug up and repotted, awaiting to plant on a less sunny spot. Or is it a root bound problem as I didnot check its roots when I planted it in ground.

The plant label only says Japanese Seedless so I am not sure what variety it is. I hope it's an Okitsu Wase because I already have a Miho Wase.

mandarine imperial (Grafted) 10/10

JUJUBEFORSALEINMELBOURNE1's Edible Fruits
Update: 5615 days 2hrs

Comments: -

Very easy to look after. Nice tree. Fruits used to be very sour until I was told to fix the problem by adding some lime and epsom salt. I have been doing it very year after that. I also found that the tree loves water when fruiting. Fruits grow to certain size then the skin continue to grow but not the inside so the fruits is not firm to touch but  softer,  I know it is time to pick the fruits.

Normally, this tree fruits every second year, last year it had a good crop and it looks like the same as last year. Thanks to the rain we have had lately.

Hi John, would love to see your citrus hedge now. Any chance of a photo and some tips from what you have learnt? I am thinking of doing the same here in NNSW. Thank you!

Hi Frenchie, I've let the yard slip a bit so don't have a pic to post. I think if I could redo my hedge I would change two things. (1) I planted dwarf trees which are just too small for a hedge. (2) I spaced the trees at about 1.5 metres and should have had them closer together. The other issue I have is that the mandarines are larger and fuller than the oranges and lemonade tree.

Thanks so much for the feedback, it has really helped me because I was considering dwarf trees. I would have also done the spacing at 1.5 m so here your tips are going to be very handy! I hope that despite its shortcoming in shaping a hedge, your trees are rewarding you with tasty fruits! Thanks again for taking the time to answer!
